LS3 C6 makes 527 rwhp!

A copy from my thread on corvetteforum:

After months of research I finally pulled the trigger on doing a cam swap. Plans for the car were an occasional drap strip visit, but mostly street driven/DD so I didn't want a car that would barely run. I contacted MANY vendors(most if not all on this forum) as to what they would suggest. I turned to Vengeance Racing for there 'stage 3' cam package that really interested me. The package included everything you needed to do the job properly.

I went ahead and installed new lifters (LS9) as I had the resources to remove the heads while I was in there anyways. A coworker who has been in the porting business for many years took my heads on as a challenge. He noticed right away that the runner didn't need much work, if any. The rough casting would be smoothed, but no excess material required removal. I also spoke with Cajun @ Bare Essentials Racing for a ported TB, and intake manifold. Mod list is as follows:

VR Katoik camshaft - 235/243 620/623 113 LSA
VR Dual Springs
Hardened Pushrods - 7.400
MELLING High Volume Oil Pump
KATECH C5R Chain
COMP Trunion Kit
ARP Cam Bolts
LS7 Timing Gear
LS9 Lifters
LS9 Spark Plugs
Ported Heads
OBX 1 7/8" headers
Catless Mids
Corsa Sports
BER Ported TB
BER Ported Intake Manifold
Dyno Tune by Walls Rod & Custom. Redline set to 7000.

The graph printed wasn't the car's best run, but was very close ~ 2 hp. Our best run, the car made 527 rwhp and 436 rwtq. I never got the final AFR ratio, but later I added a AEM wideband and afrs are around 12:1. Nonetheless, hat an animal! Big thanks to Kevin and Ryan at Vengeance Racing for all their help! As well as Cajun at BER for his assistance as well. Top notch vendors.

Idle clip(car was cold and literally was running on fumes so I just did a quick light rev):

Thats quite a slope, hows the low and mid range?

weldermike27408 11-05-2012 09:03 AM

Having 350 ft lbs at 3k rpm should be pretty nice right? I would guess (cause I'm no expert) that this car would rip pretty well! Especially with it's relatively low weight.

Damn, that's stout on a Mustang. That's about the high end of expected on a Dynojet. Am I missing something?

yonerhottlt1 11-06-2012 02:40 PM

Wow...that thing is making some good power!

Hell yea thats why I asked lol!

I hate when they format the graphs like that! Not too shabby on power though, peak torque is a lot higher in the RPM than usual.

427LS7HCI 11-07-2012 10:46 AM

What would SAE Dynojet numbers be?

Ron@Vengeance 11-20-2012 09:26 AM

Very impressive #s!!! Thanx for posting

06X6spdGTO 11-21-2012 09:10 AM

Very impressive numbers on a mustang dyne!! Dynojet SAE would be around 540whp!

MikeWS6 11-21-2012 01:23 PM

Now I know what my next car will be

Jerm__ 11-28-2012 01:43 PM

damn thats good power.

Detoxx03 11-28-2012 11:06 PM

That's what I'm talking about.

ScreaminRedZ 12-01-2012 12:00 PM

Nice numbers.

Without getting it on a DJ it's hard to compare. MD can read anywhere from way less to a bunch higher than a DJ depending on what the operator does.

Thanks for the comments guys! Car ran 12.2 @ 123 on stock size street tires. Looking for a low 11 next year with drs

427LS7HCI 12-07-2012 11:05 AM

527rwhp and only 123mph??? What was the DA?

Auto or Manual?

Burrhos 12-07-2012 11:50 AM

Putting the power down with street tires is near impossible. With DRs I'd expect you to pick up at least 5mph or more.

I refered back to my time slip when I ran the car and I was wrong. It ran 12.1 @ 121. Not sure on the DA but it was very warm that day ~30*C so around 90*F?? , and there was a headwind. Definitely not the day to be setting any records. Thats why I went out there in 100% street trim. 30 psi. Bridgestone re11's out back. stock size. All numbers aside, it does surge at parking lot speeds or during low speed manuevers, which I've learned to accept. The car pulls extremely hard in the mid-high range.. go figure. lol. Around the city I have no issues other than the 1st gear surging, but it drives very similiar to a stock vette at cruising speeds. Would recommend this cam for the serious hp enthusiast.
