Default Fast 78mm

So I found one for $400 shipped. Finally got it on and gained 10whp/9wtq over my LS1 intake. I have LS2 243s and 1256308 Z06 Cam. No headers or tune yet... but I figured I should see at least 15whp.... yes??? no???
Anyone else have similar mods with a FAST 78 intake? I have stock tb shaner ported one ory and slp lm catback.
Thanks in advance

the older 78s werent much better then ls6s, until you ported them. with an ls6 cam, you're not really starving for intake air, either.

Get it tuned - it's probably very lean now. The VE table and MAF table will be way off.

My car went 3mph faster in the 1/4 with the 78mm fast + tune - than it did with the LS1 intake.

everything is fine... a/f is 12.3-12.6 throughout entire range. i don't have headers yet either. i'm gonna try to port opening to at least 3.5 inch or 85MM just by doing that ppl report the 78 is at that point about equal to 90mm

I'd definitely say port it and absolutely say tune for it. Tunes are huge on any mod, because it will help the computer dial itself in correctly.

Ive seen turbo cars running the exact same setup, except one was on 20psi and a great tune and the other was on 24psi, meth, and a mediocre tune race. the better tuned car ate the other car up.

While I realize this is not identical to your situation, I would still say tune it! Also, I agree that a different cam could help.

I went from 298-320 rwhp in my 98 Vette with a LS6 intake swap. I have a vararam intake and a z06 axleback. Thats with no tune though a auto.

You said you don't have headers...doesn't do much good to try to get more air in if it can't get out.

What about a lid? If you have a stock airbox/lid that is a bigger restriction than the intake was.

Mods work together. No part is worth XX hp amount unless the other mods are in place to support it. You might have only gained 10rwhp now, but due to the mod you did when you do headers you will gain more there than doing them by themselves. Same if you do indeed have a stock lid.
