Default Brian Tooley cam, stock LS1 241s, FAST 90/90, TH400, 9" - 420 RWHP

Let me first give thanks to Brian Tooley for the cam, Jeremy Formato with Fasterproms for the tuning, and Fat Body Performance for making all the magic happen. I've been beating on this old stock LS1 since 2005. I've put tons of bottles through this car to see how far I could push it. I was able to make a best pass of 10.74 @ 123 mph, 1.42 60' (6.78 @ 99 mph). I figured I accomplished my goal with the motor stock and it was about time to add some power to her.

This was my starting point:

Lid
QTP 1 3/4 Headers
3" exhaust x-pipe dynomax bullet mufflers dumped
Tune
NX 150 shot - wet - shark nozzle
FTI TH400/Converter
Moser 9" Narrowed 3" each side (5.5 bs rims )
28" Radials

No Surprise. TH400/Big Converter/9" eats up some power. What you'd expect from a stock LS1 with a couple bolt-ons and some giggle juice.

New Setup:

Brian Tooley Racing Cam (235/242 .620/.594 111 LSA)
BTR .660 lift valve springs w/ titanium retainers
Chromoly pushrods
Comp Cams Rocker Arm Trunnion kit
FAST 90/90
85 mm MAF
98 mm Lid
42 lb injectors
u/d pulley
Racetronix fuel pump kit
LS6 oil pump
single roller timing chain
Nitrous Outlet 2 stage 90 mm plate
Lingenfelter 2 step

100 shot, then 2 at 150. Retarded 4 degrees with Lingenfelter 2 step for 150 shot.

The 420 pull was with 28* timing, then we backed it down to 26.5*

Here's the video:

I would have to agree. I definitely was not expecting over 100 RWHP gain from the cam/intake swap.

That is a great setup. Nothing but great things coming from Brian Tooley. Now get some track times

Oh trust me... I'm biting at the chomp to get to the track. I was expecting low dyno numbers and good track performance. I'm anxious to see what's going to happen now that I have good dyno numbers...

I ran consistent 10.9s and 11.0s with 1.4 60' times before. The goal was to build the car to run consistent 6.5s/10.5s with some hero runs in the low 10.3 range. We'll see what she does.

I'm no expert but seems you could have pulled the engine to 7k and still be making power just as the cam is advertised to do. Why not turn it more rpm and see? The intake will surely help.

I can't wait to see how it does at the track

Very nice!

FWIW my old cam only set-up with a 4800 stall, 275/60 drag radials@18psi, TH400, 12 bolt with 4.10's, Fast 92/96 and239/247 .624"/.624" 110+0 camshaft made 424/383 on a Dyno Jet.

Ran 10.20's@129mph at 3000lbs race weight in 1800-2200 DA. Yours should run very well.

To be honest, I'm not really sure why he didn't pull it to 7K. I agree that I could have made a little more peak power if we went all the way to 7K. The main purpose was to tune the car, and that's what he did. I'll probably shift the car around 6750 rpm or so. I'm ok with making power down low and not having to spin it too much. For added security, I did put ARP rod bolts in her to see a comparison in shifting at different RPMs.

Sounds good for sure. I just noticed the graph looks good at the top. Pretty flat and I thought with the right amount of fuel it would go to 7k pretty easy. That would make it quite a bit faster at the track I would think.

But.... I can't wait to hear how it does!

I wouldn't stop turning it until it hit 7200rpm.

I would be willing to bet you will see .1-.2 quicker et just on motor shifting @7200 over 6750. We are spinning our stock rod bolt motor to 6900-7000 on a big dose of nitrous so don't be afraid to spin yours. Our cam is very close to yours and it picked up .25 on motor moving shift points up from 6600 to 7000.I like to run 1/2 qt extra oil in mine with high volume pump to make sure it doesn't starve at high rpm.

I'm running a the racetronix fuel pump kit and 42 lb injectors so I should be fine on the fuel side.

You guys are making me want to spin some extra rpms....

Not going to lie... little skeered of

It's like a curse around here... you go TH400 and big cam spinning high rpms... next thing you know you have spun rod bearings all over the place.

I think you will be good with the correct shifting. Just get some practice and get those shift points good.

It's your car/engine. You shift it where you feel safe.
I was just making a note of the graph and the advertisement of the cam " not falling off rapidly ". Sure enough it looks very impressive up top, nice and flat, like it will keep pulling well above 7,000. But if your not comfortable dont spin it up.

I still think it will be a fun ride and I can't wait to hear how it does!

Bad *** setup and that cam is also one of the 3 I'm looking at. MY biggest decision is do I go TH400 which will cost roughly the same amount with all the swap parts as rebuilding my blown 4L60 by FLT or RPM.

I like to drive my car and the track that is more lax is over an hour away vs the closer one that is more strict.

This cam and EPS similiar spec'd cam have impressed me, it's nice to see some track times and seeing what setups are on the car to achieve those times.

That profile just flat out works with cathedral port heads.
