I'm not complaining BUT...

I have a 2000 WS6 6 speed. It now has 11k miles

I bought it two years ago from a forum member. He told me he never touched this car. He owned it from about 6k to 9k. for about 3 years or so.

Original owner supposed optioned it out by SLP. So it has SLP Long tubes, high flow cats, and cat back.
But it has a LS1 motorsports lid? not sure why it didn't get a SLP lid.

It had a LS6 intake with EGR fittings.

I just removed the intake and put on a ported FAST 92 intake with a NW 92 TB.

I had it tuned at speed inc and dyno'd.

I've attached my dyno sheet. Everyone is impressed with the results.

I called the second owner yesterday and he confirmed that he didn't do anything and that he did not take the original owner as someone who did much. Original owner was older and it seemed that he just optioned and had someone do the bolt ons.

No obvious cam or head work. Has 241 casted on the heads.

What do you guys think? Just a strong motor because of low miles and good up keep, or a sleeper cam?

madmike9396 Aug 23, 2014 08:24 AM

damn great numbers !!!!

ds98formula Aug 23, 2014 10:36 AM

Good number. I am guessing it has a cam in it. Power climbs too many rpm for stock long block. Probably a small cam.

HCI2000SS Aug 23, 2014 10:38 AM

Either some type of cam or a very generous dyno ;)

SoFla01SSLookinstok Aug 23, 2014 10:45 AM

Might have a sleeper cam. Maybe just from the fast setup? Hmmmmm interesting!

tigersooner Aug 23, 2014 02:15 PM

The guys at speed said too much for bolt ons. Even though intake ported. If it has a cam how come it peaks hp and torque same place you would expect a stock cam? Shouldn't it peak closer to 6k.
What cam do you guys think?
Any other mod that could have given these types of numbers?
The car has no suspension mods.

Jackson98Z28 Aug 23, 2014 02:28 PM

Had a friend with a 01 SS put 360 down with same setup only with the ls6 intake still on it. Maybe a ported 92 could make 18 more I don't know.

Zlow28 Aug 23, 2014 02:59 PM

it might have a little more than you think. IIRC, 241 heads where only on 01/02 fbodies, so maybe someone ported the heads a bit if they arent original. I wouldnt be surprised if its stock cam with that little mileage though.

Either way nice numbers OP!!

HCI2000SS Aug 23, 2014 03:06 PM

Hp and tq is peaking where it should for a stock cam car so it's not a bigger cam. Unlikely the heads have been worked with a stock cam, so I'm leaning towards the dyno itself

tigersooner Aug 23, 2014 06:25 PM

I didn't realize that 241 were only on 01 an 02.

No one says that they hear a cam in the car.

They dyno could be friendly but it wasn't a friendly day- hot and humid.

I have seen 15 hp over ls6 several times. That is why I sent with it. I got lucky with the port job. It was a freebie.

Wrong, 241 heads were on my 2000 formula. I bought it brand new. That car has either a cam in it, or ported heads.

i guess i stand corrected, thanks for clearing that up

My friend had an 01 WS6. It made close to that with only a few boltons. It was crazy fast with basically nothing done to it.

My dad used to tell me stories how Pontiac would test parts by sneaking them into production vehicles. Who knows. Enjoy it!

Mike@Diablosport Aug 24, 2014 08:49 AM

Take it to the track.

The trap speed will speak the truth ;)

It has a cam in it, period. Those are NOT the stock peaks.

Some smaller cams sound completely stock. Pull a valve cover and take pictures of the springs, post them here.

Agreed...Stock LS1 dyno peaks at 5200-5300. This car peaks at 5700-5900. No way stock cam.

I don't see anything wrong with the numbers or the powerband. My old SS had similar power curves. It made 25 less hp through an auto with an LS6 intake. I think it had 17X11's on it at the time as well. Some cars are stronger than others.

JakeFusion Aug 24, 2014 02:33 PM

Could they have swapped an LS6 cam in there? Has LS6 springs... might have been a sleeper upgrade. Tho the powerband looks wrong for an LS6.

Probably stock cam... does it have 1.8:1 rockers on it? They add some power to a stock cam.

IDK. The power curve seems to peak at a higher rpm. It may just be that he has the 98-00 ls1 cam & the fast setup though. Only 11k miles also. Who knows? This may always be a question unless someone tears into it. Hey, thats what a "sleeper" cam is supposed to do anyway right? :D

ds98formula Aug 24, 2014 07:26 PM

My numbers are on speed inc dyno as well no way around that has to have a cam. Graph is identical to mine or very close
