[VR] MAST 3.900 LS3 Heads/FAST 102/Kaotik Cam Picks Up 110rwhp On 383 LS1!
This beautiful 2002 Camaro SS came in for a full top-end refresh. This Camaro arrived with a relatively subtle 383ci LS1 still utilizing stock 241 cylinder heads, an LS6 intake, and very mild camshaft that was already in the car when the customer purchased it. After the customer had installed his own aftermarket clutch kit and Midwest Chassis, Inc 9" rear-end, the car laid down 382rwhp and 380rwtq on our dyno on 93 octane. The car was also fitted with full suspension and a set of American Racing wheels wrapped in Nitto drag radials in preperation for the upcoming power bump here at Vengeance.
The customer's goal was to build something both powerful and unique, while still retaining reliability at the track and on the street. For this, we created a combination using the following parts that would compliment his current stroker shortblock as well as give performance with a well balanced powerband that he was seeking. For this particular setup, we came up with the following:
• Mast Motorsports 240cc small-bore LS3 cylinder heads
• FAST - 102mm LSXR LS3 intake manifold
• AirMotive Fuel Rails
• Nick Williams 102mm throttle body
• Fast Toys 98mm Air Lid
• GM LS7 lifters
• Vengeance Racing Kaotik camshaft
• Melling 10296 oil pump
• C5R timing chain
• Vengeance Racing 42lb fuel injectors
• Racetronix F99 fuel pump kit
After less than one week in the shop to complete this work, we headed to the dyno to wrap up ECU tuning. The final output was an extremely impressive 492rwhp and 460rwtq on 93 octane fuel and through a 9" rear end!! This was a gain of 110rwhp and 79rwtq with just a few simple modifications! The customer is loving the new sound, driveability, and performance of the combination and can't wait to head to the local track to see what this combination can really do.

The LS6 intake isn't the reason for ~385hp. The old cam was probably mild and the older ported 241 heads seem most likely issues and probably tuning. Too many have made 450+ at wheels with an LS6 intake for it to be the major issue.
