What were the specs on the old cam, for the sake of comparison?

Thanks!

Big cam too for those cubes! My 441 cam is 252/260 and .714" Cammotion LLSR also... but its a road race cam. Maybe it'll run one day...

What heads/intake? Compression?

Are you running exotic headers that are stepped? What size primary and collectors? That's crazy power!
Out of the box mast ls3 255 heads, fast mid runner with the snout opened up to 107 mm, 11.9-12:1 compression. 2” TSP headers with SE 3” x pipe duals

Lots and lots of little things. Lots.

Looks like a low Holley sniper could be worth about 20 more flywheel hp over the fast but make 10 less peak tq. Hmmm

I like your build... been thinking about it but I have questions.
Why go with the 255 LS3 head and not the 280-285 LS3 Mast head?

Why even bother with a LS3 head if you have the bore to run a LS7 head from Mast?

He may have his own reasoning but I would guess because it's still a relatively small motor, and 255 is plenty of head for a 388.

The larger square port heads really want over 400 cubes to take advantage of them.

this is not your typical 4.000 inch stroke build. This is a short stroke/BIG BORE engine. It's more than one way to come up with 388 cubes.

Because the project started as an SBE ls3 but then my short block was no good.

280’s are too big for a 388

The ls3’s seem to be working fine though

Ls3 is very tempting over ls7 top end due to the broader intake options too. There is no fast midlength for ls7 for example.

Understandable about the shortblock.

What's your opinion on the 265 LS7 Mast heads that's intended for 4.000 bore motors ?

I’d think they’d be a dandy head on a 408/416 that’s pushing 7000+ rpm

That's what the morals are. Look like decent quality and I don't plan to go over the 7500 rpm limit they recommend.
then again i spin to 7400 on LS7 lifters

Link bars are badass, I never understood why guys spend over 3 grand on a set of heads then spend a 100 dollars on lifters but whatever. I personally think lifters can make or break a motor reliability but that's me thinking that.

So the morel 5452 link bar lifters will be fine with a .700 or less lift and 7500 or less shift point?
