FMS Cam, small head 408, 542/535 (graph added)

UNTUNED. I have my old tune from my 383 still in the car. will be tuned next tuesday, but was running about 12.5:1 on the dyno

here's the setup.
Stage II heads, done by a non-sponsor.
2.02/1.60 valves
flow 293 @ 600-630 intake, peak flow doesn't mean JACK, this is PROOF if there are any doubters.

can't find the flowsheet right now, but mid lift numbers are GREAT. edit: posted full flow sheet down a few.

1 3/4 dynatechs, open headers
90mm LSX, 90mm TPIS, 85mm MAF, 85mm lid
FMS 246/250 .632/.628 111+4 cam
12.5:1 compression
4.030 bore 4" stroke, diamond pistons, oliver rods.

will post graph asap, but here are some highlights.

PEAK HP IS AT 5700!! :D TQ at 4400

never goes below 400RWTQ
over 500rwhp from 5100 to 6600
over 500rwtq from 5100 to 5400

Those are awesome numbers. I can't wait to see where you are at after the tune. I saw you at Supertune last saturday. You might remember me. I was the kid who came in to dyno right before you left. I was in the 01 NBM SS. How did the race turn out Sun.? I wanted to be there so bad but work kept me from going.

383ss 11-15-2004 06:24 PM

ended up running 10.58 @ 130 yesterday. for some reason the car doesn't like good weather  it's ran best in 1000 DA with a 10.53 @ 130.5
since then I've ran in -500 and -800 and it run's high 10.5's and 10.6's  @ still 130

Congrats on the #'s.. Compression is good:)

awesome john, just awesome.

half-n-half 11-15-2004 11:19 PM

how streetable is that car,if streetable at all. also if you can pm me about your heads, are they just ls1s or are they ls6 heads, etc. are you running on 93 octane or a race mixture of some type?

Thanks
Louie

Man I'm wanting a Futral LS2 based 402 now :judge:

Congrats :drive:

Very nice numbers man. I bet the curve looks even more killer than the peak numbers.

I know you guys running 12:1 compression and above are running some type of higher octane mix to get the optimum numbers but do you run 93 all the time on the street?

Do you go WOT on the street with 93 octane only in the car?

Also, were you using the same heads/cam/compression on the 383 and if so, how much power did it make?

Mike K. 11-16-2004 11:28 AM

Sweet numbers man, another awesome 408 on the road!!

Worm 11-16-2004 11:42 AM

Nice but what are the peaks? When are you getting it tuned?

1fastWS6 11-16-2004 12:26 PM

Incredible HP/TQ for only 62 more cubes than a stock short block!

In my case I do drive my car on the street on 93 octane. Depending on the temp outside I have went WOT with NO KR. I have had to decrease timing in 6th gear going up hills because of 1 to 2 degrees of KR, but other than that I have seen no issues with detonation on my car.

383ss 11-16-2004 06:51 PM

it's pretty streetable if i put street tires and close the cutouts.

usually a track only car though, I run a 91/100 mix. want to tune it for pump gas though and see what it does with full exhaust.

they are 5.7L heads milled .030.

I posted the peaks in my original post... 5700/4400

383 had the same heads but 11.1 compression and a 236/232 cam. made 490/475 on a bad tune.

CHRISPY 11-16-2004 07:31 PM

you might be leaning out a bit too much at the track. I bet if you fattened it up 3-5% in the program on the cool days you'll pick up mph and ET :)

thanks. my laptop conveniently crashes every time I'm at the track  hopefully I can get some logs this sunday.

GrannySShifting 11-21-2004 05:47 PM

I would say it nees fuel as well

383ss 11-27-2004 11:52 PM

this was on a DIFFERENT dyno than the baseline so the numbers aren't quite apples to apples. the tune was almost dead on from my old 383 setup  smoothing on this graph is also at 3, the 542/535 numbers on the other dyno it was at 1.

.400 264 197
.500 286 222

.630 293 233

Now why do you think your 408 is doing so much better than the usual 450-475 rwhp car with the same type heads your running?

cause I built it :) :jest: not sure on that. my old 383 always ran great and put down great dyno numbers too, maybe part is my engine machinist.

also the dyno graph is off by 2-300 rpm's. it should be shifted to the left.
