DYNO'd the 99 Trans Am Today

I went to Axcelerated Motorsports this morning (9/30/05) and Dale (nice guy) got the car strapped down by 10:15AM.

We did 2 pulls back to back:

Results:

322.6rwhp/338.4rwtq SAE with a/f averaging 12.9 all the way through.

Average horsepower from 2400-6000 (power died off after 5600) was 255.5 and average torque was 322.9.

Horsepower Mods on the 99 LS1 6 speed are:

Long Tube Headers, catted y-pipe, 3" exhaust cutout, ram air lower airbox, SLP lid.

At the motor this would be 379.5 horsepower and 398.5.

Funny thing is these rear wheel #s are probably what my Automatic Vette will put down.

Those numbers seem a little low for the mods you have, did it get tune? I have about the same mods...ahh, I guess an LS6 intake and a tune would definitely raise those #s.

No tune, I just had it up on the rollers.

I think the 99s are weaker than other years, your 01 is much stronger from the factory with the LS6 intake.

I am sure the LS6 intake along with a tune would help, but I think it would only bump me up to around 330-340rwhp tops, not worth it IMHO at the moment.

Considering my last 3 cars were a 03 Cobra with 445rwhp, a 2001 Viper GTS with 420rwhp, and a 92 Stang with 470rwhp, I don't think 20rwhp is gonna make enough of a difference.

Now a 100 shot might wake her up a bit :D

You know, I went back and checked my dyno graph, and my numbers were pretty much same as yours before tuning 326whp and 332wtq and 343WHP 352WTQ after tuning. So taking in consideration that I have the ls6 intake + UD pulley your #s are pretty decent IMO.

that does seem low. my 2000 w/SLP lid dynoed 318hp and 325 tq.

RedSS01 -

Thanks for all the info.

Now, just a tune to gain increases like that would be SWEET!

I just don't want to spend money on an intake, cam, or heads right yet, but if a tune can gain me 17rwhp and 20rwtq by itself, well sign me up. :drive:

Swang -

You obviously have a strong car, were they SAE #s???

The numbers seem slightly low, not bad numbers at all though.

I have a 98 A4 and i put down

325RWHP and 338 RWTQ

with just Lid, Hooker LT's, ORY, and GMMG.

seems like you're numbers are fine. possibly just sliiiightly low.

yell03 Oct 3, 2005 04:26 PM

I have seen better #s, but I have also seen worse.

I'd say it is probably a bit on the low side, out of 10 cars with the same mods (1 being the best, 10 being the worst) I would think it is about #7.

Most importantly, it is within the normal range = Healthy

Now, if it owuld have dyno'd under 280rwhp, then I would have been worried.
