ls1 dyno

I've been a long time reader of these forums, and I'm sorry, I now have to say something. the ls1's are more powerful than the lt1's, yes, but some of these dyno claims are ridiculous, my 99' dynoed at 276 hp and 307 torque...thats about 325 flywheel hp, and about 360 torque, underrated, yes, but I've seen some people claim to have their stock z28's dynoing at 305-320 rwhp...cmon, give it a rest, they dont make that much.

Lithium 01-29-2006 01:28 PM

Some do.

6spd99formula 01-29-2006 01:30 PM

I mean, z06 vettes only dyno at around 340-350, are you saying that your ls1 camaro/firebird has only 25-35 less horse than a z06?

brandon1221 01-29-2006 01:41 PM

my car dyno'd at 331/342 with just a catback exhaust, lid, and throttle body. I doubt that stuff would give me 55hp which is what it would be if mine and your cars dyno'd the same HP stock. Yes that was with the stock ls1 intake and no headers.

I am not saying mine does...I have no idea where my car was at stock. But the majority of M6 F-bodys dyno around 300 to 310...some higher.

If yours is an auto, then your #'s are about right. If your's is an M6 then your car might need a tune up or have something wrong. The dyno #'s you've heard about are true. They usually dyno 300+rwhp

6spd99formula 01-29-2006 02:35 PM

If i recall, even hot rod magazine dyno'ed them way back in late 98', with the 6 speed, they were getting between 275-285 hp and 305-315 tq.

Lithium 01-29-2006 02:42 PM

Every car is different some put down better numbers then others.

Also depends on which type of dyno was used.

here is my stock dyno graph. My mods were flowmaster 80 series (no better than stock exhaust) and FRA. As you can see, stock Z28, M6, made 317 hp.

add in better heads (241's), better exhaust manifolds (00-02), and better intake (ls6 01-02) and tell me that these 305-310rwhp bone stock dyno's are bullshit.

OverLord 01-29-2006 04:10 PM

yea there is a differance in the 98s and the the later models buddy.

Blackss99 01-29-2006 04:15 PM

As with every car the first few years usually the lowest horsepower of all.Don't compare your 99 to the 02's your wrong.

If that's true, then you should know that it's very common for people to make over 300rwhp on stock LS1s.

If you have a '99 M6 LS1 making 276rwhp then you are on the very low side of stock LS1 power. In fact, I'd guess that something is robbing you of about 15-20rwhp, perhaps KR/timing issues or poor A/F ratio due to an MAF that needs cleaing, plugs/wires/fuel or air filter that needs changing, reduced cat flow, etc. Or, if the motor has a lot of miles, maybe some compression has been lost?

Hell, the stock '98s and '99s I've seen dyno make 290-300rwhp as well.

Exactly, the 01's and 02's only dynoe about 5-10 rwhp more than the other years. My 98 Z28 dynoed 298 rwhp bone stock with about 56000 miles, so you might want to do a tune up or something because that is kind of low for any year LS1.

BackinBlack02SS 01-29-2006 04:44 PM

My BONE STOCK 02 SS made 311/334 with about 3,000 miles on the odometer.

Stock with lid and filter only Dyno Graph

2000SLPZ28 01-29-2006 05:44 PM

i have a 00 z28 with the A4, it had about 55,000 miles when i put it on the dyno, it was bone stock. the dyno was a dyno jet. i made 269 rwhp. and 296 rwtq. which i thought was pretty good for an automatic, plus the person who had it before me was pretty rough on it. ive got loud mouth exhaust, new lid, 3.42 gear, ls1 edit and thats it, and made around 311/315. i know ounce i get some headers, those numbers should pick up. i know fo a fact that an ls1 M6 can produce at lease 300 at the wheels, expeacily a ss.

GXPPOWER 01-29-2006 06:39 PM

...

didnt a magazine a while back dyno the corvette ls1 and TA ls1 or ss ls1 and the corvette dynoed well lower than the advertised power and the TA/ss dynoed 15+ what was advertised. its still on a webpage somewhere. came across it about a week ago.

BadBlackZ 01-29-2006 07:09 PM

My old 98 Z28 A4 had a Chokemaster catback (was on the car when i bought it) other than that bone stock down to the paper filter and it dynoed 295rwhp and 325rwtq. Yes it was an auto, no tuning no nothing.
