Stock Z06 243's and Cam..... I aquired a set of stock C5 Z06 heads for my 2k camaro m6. I am indecisive on what cam but want to make max HP w/o having to worry about fly cutting. It isn't a daily driver so i am not really worried about it being too agressive. I have been looking at a Hellion, MS4, TRQ3, and TREX but have heard mix results. What do you think would be the smart move with stock 346, full exhaust and an LS6 intake. A fast 90/90 would follow soon behind. |
Of the ones you listed, I have been impressed with the T-Rex. Although the other two are also up there, power wise. If you want max power (for something like drag racing), give Patrick G a PM, he will recommend you something that will fit your bill nicely. :) |
Since you want max HP go with a big ass cam. T-Rex or MS4, etc. I know some people don't like the MS4 because they say it feels sluggish down low, but those people are also driving their cars to work everyday. For you it shouldn't be a problem. |
To be honest man, i woulnd't go with the t-rex or the ms4 unless the car is a track car. You will be missing so much down low that on the street you will have a big possibility of losing to lower hp cars. |
check out my post i have a vindicator with a stock ls6 heads and short block and i didnt have to fly cut and this cam is really easy to drive with and sounds great. I put down 420rwhp on a mustange dyno and 387 tq and i ran out of injector it still has alot left in it. Pluse there is another guy on here with a 2002 som ws6 t/a with stock block and stock ls6 heads stock intake and t/b with a vindicator and he made 430ish and put down a 11.4 pass with a crapy 60ft. |
Yeah, the Vindicator is nice!!! |
TRex. Stock 241s. I dyno'd 410hp/390tq through my 9" w 4.11s and a steel driveshaft. Trapped right at 118mph with open headers/o2 sensor codes on and a another guy's tune just to get it to the track that day. |
We've gotten 438rwhp out of a 2004 Z06 with our "X" cam, Kooks 1 7/8" LT's and tuning on our Mustang MD-1100SE Dyno, and 426rwhp out of a 2002 Z06 with with the same cam, Kooks 1 3/4" LT's. The 2002 Z06 after the installation of a FAST 90 picked across the board and had the final numbers being 438rwhp after retuning with the new intake. Both cars had 42lb/hr injectors as well, and were pretty much identicle other than the headers size. |
All those cams are very proven, I see you have a lot of bolt ons (headers exhaust ect) and I have a 2002 LS6 stock motor in my car and basicly all the bolt ons. But when I had the LS6 intake and MTI polish throttle bod with my Futral F13 cam my car put down 422 rwhp on a mustang dyno and went 11.20s with stock LS6 heads (the only thing changed on the heads was the springs Comp 921 and retainers to handle the lift and duration.) Out of the cams listed I would probably go with the MS4. |
228/232 .600/.600 on 111lsa. I put down 424rwhp, 397rwtq with wrong pushrods through a 9 inch rear with an ls6 intake. I used stock 243 castings with .040 cometic headgasket. My point is that you don't need a huge cam to make power with these heads. Do your homework and pick the right cam for your heads. Peak hp numbers mean absolutely nothing, area under the curve is where it's at. |
Straightline, specs on the X Cam? |

I am also running stock LS6 heads ( unported) upgraded valvetrain, with a G5X3, bolt on's, 3600 stall and made 403/405 though an A4.. Pretty nice numbers.. Good luck! |
I'm for calling Patrick G and having him spec a cam to your needs & vehicle. |
