Default 4.6 vs 6.0 C10??

Well a guy i work with is a Ford 'er. He always talks down on GM.

But anyway, he has an 05'ish convertible GT, 5 speed & i was talking about my truck build the other day when he chimed in that we should line up when i finish it.

just wanted to see what you guys think the outcome will be since the truck is not finished yet.

but i have a 6.0 LQ4 with a 4L80E in my 1982 Shortbed GMC C10.

engine is fairly stock, stock intake, trailblazer SS manifolds (headers weren't available until a few days ago) dual magnaflow resonators with no cats, LS1 Radiator & electric fans, "off the shelf" tune added to the PCM when i had VATS disabled.

trans is fresh stock rebuilt, TRANSGO shift kit & B&M aux cooler ran in series with LS1 Radiator.

the only thing i have to finish is the rear end, the ol 10 bolts still in right now...
9.5" GM 14 bolt, 3.73's, disk brakes, Truetrac, Caltrac traction bars running 15x12 wheels with a 325/50-15 either Nitto or BFG Drag Radials out back

now i hope i can get a STALL convertor before hand, but based on this what do you guys think, from a dig? i def have him on power and more than likely traction, but weight will be my enemy as ol girl weighs around 4300.

Well, he assuming he is stock it is a mid to high 13 second car if he can drive.

Edit:

Ran your numbers through a calculator. 4300lbs and 325hp (stock lq4 is rated 300-325 hp) gets you an estimate of ~13.8@97mph or so. Get the stall to put it in your favor.

I would run a 3600 or 3800 and that body style is pretty heavy. My buddies 03 weighs like 4600 or so he says. Plus that 05 is bigger and a convertible so that adds weight. I think with a good size stall and a holy hell launch you will make him cry. My bone stock t/a was a bumper off my buddies 03 that has cai, tb, plenum, intake, CB, and full suspension. So I think you will get him

A 03 Mustang and a 05+ Mustang are completely different animals. The pre-05 4.6 GTs were 2 valve turds (usually low 14 sec cars, great driver in good weather might get a 13 out of it).

05 switched to the retro body style complete with a 3 valve 300hp rated 4.6 and plenty of other changes.

a 3800 was what i had in mind as well! if i can hold myself back until i get the stall i think it will be in my favor. because i'll have gobs more grip with 325 mm DR's than the mustang's all season pizza cutters as long as i can get some decent weight transfer.. i really need to look into a cam, possible an LS6 cam or something to move my powerband up.

one day i plan a mid-sized turbo install, but thatll be a long way off unless i win the lottery haha

Yea I know there is a big difference but my buddies has like 5-6000 into it thats why I used it as a comparison. But I think you will get him with the stall, and with a cam and a good tune you will be doing good.
And aren't we all waiting for that lotto ticket to come in and solve all our problems and make are cars crazy lol

Might be close, I would be concerned about the Mustangs gearing advantage. I noticed that you stated that your C10 weighs 4300 lbs, did you weigh it on a scale? Looks like a SWB. I could be wrong, (actually the scale could be wrong) but I weighed an 82 C10 SWB at 3600 lbs on a truck scale.

Quick Reply: 4.6 vs 6.0 C10??
