went 7.3 with some traction and shifting issues, car wants to shift to 2nd at 7mph if i launch in overdrive!!! so for the time being i would take off in 1 and shift to 3rd once i got got past 60'
shift points set at 6400 for now (will be raised) and timing at 28* for now also
going to swap over to Hoosier slicks for next time, the old (hard) MT radials were not cutting it. but it was a t&t so the track prep was minimal.

I know this is old; just wanted to point out that doing any kind of hard acceleration in OD is a quick way to smoke your trans. Not to mention it goes slower.

Why is that?
When you start with the gear selector in the OD position the car still starts out in 1st gear and shifts to 2nd, All he is doing is starting out with the gear selector in 1st and manually shifting so that it doesn't shift early.

I know I'm gonna be off slightly with my answer, but I'll be close. When you select D or lower, it turns on/opens a fluid pump outlet for hard acceleration. Whereas in OD, that additional fluid isn't being flowed where it needs to be.

Not to mention it runs .2 slower in OD.

Another thing you don't want to do is accelerate all the way through a burnout. Always let off before the wheels stop spinning.

My trans guy disagrees , He says line pressure is the same no matter where you have the gear selector except reverse. Trans doesn't know why it's in 1st gear only that the computer is commanding it. If left in drive or overdrive the computer commands the same 1-2 shift points.
