It's Starting.... Here's a new Viper- go live your life! DETROIT — Chrysler, which is in merger talks with its crosstown rival, General Motors, told its employees Friday that it would cut about 25 percent of its salaried and contract work force next month. The automaker said that it would offer buyout and early retirement packages in the next two weeks and that layoffs would follow in December. As many as 5,000 people will lose their jobs, a Chrysler official with direct knowledge of the plans said. “These are truly unimaginable times for our industry,” Chrysler’s chief executive, Robert L. Nardelli, wrote in a letter to workers. “We continue to be in the most difficult economic period most of us can remember. The combination of troubled financial markets, difficult credit, volatile commodity prices, the housing crisis and declining consumer confidence continues to weigh on the economy. Never before have auto industry sales contracted at such a fast rate.” Chrysler, in a statement, said the buyouts would involve “both cash and new-vehicle vouchers.”Mr. Nardelli said he would announce more organizational and restructuring plans soon. Friday’s news does not affect hourly workers but comes a day after Chrysler said it would eliminate 1,825 jobs by year’s end at sport-utility vehicle assembly plants in Ohio and Delaware. |
Hmmm.. . wonder if i'll be able to get my GM employee discount on a new Viper in the future?? :jest: :jest: |
I never ever once for one second imagined the day would come where one of the big 3 would, either one for that matter would be in this serious of trouble! I hope all 3 survive this fucking catastrophe of an economy right now. Supposedly GM and Ford have enough cash stacked away to keep them afloat for the next 10-12 months. But something has to pick up... With gas prices falling one would think that the SUV just might make a comeback. However, people need money to buy said SUV's, and with unemployment climbing, it doesn't appear pretty! I have made the decision to stop listening to the news and reading the paper. It just make me sicker and stresses me out everyday, more and more. |
Yeah, man I agree. I hope something changes for the better soon!! Losing your job def. sucks. But even more so during this time of they year, with the holiday season coming. :( |

You mean give it to the govt so they can give it to their lobbyist freinds in the insurance agencies who will then magically provide "health insurance for all Americans" even the Illegal aliens. And your current health CARE will not suffer by providing insurance to all these millions who do not pay. ha ha ha |

That or credit, which is even more scarce. It's the perfect storm, and the eye of the storm is aimed at the Big 3. |
It has al been a long time coming. The group that bought Chrysler from Damler wwwaaaayyyyyy over paid. Chrysler has no internal technology development, their cars almost all get worst in class mileage, their styling department thinks everything should look like a truck, and they managed to turn cool little Jeep Wranglers into full size trucks with a POS multipiece removable top system. Bascially, they took a company that was already running thin and completely messed it up. Viper is even packaged up and ready to be sold off as it's own brand, how's that for a sign of desperation? -Tim |
That same company that purchased chrysler, Cerebus, was supposed to buy my company as well. They backed out of the deal on the day of the signing, paid my company 100million, inflated the stock price to 36 bucks a share, all our top execs cashed out, now the stock is worth 8 bucks.................... |
