I bought a 2002 Z28 Hard Top brand new in 2002, just the way I wanted it.
Crank windows and all.
I knew I was going to do occasional drag racing.
Lightest F-body, biggest motor. I love the car.
To this day the car is spotless and has about 6500 miles on it.

Seven Years later (2009), I bought a 2002 EB ZO6 with about 7500 miles on it from the original owner, museum delivery car, already had all the mods I wanted and more.
I love the body style and the color.
It is what I was going to buy in 2002 if I didn't get the Camaro.

They are both great cars.
No regrets. Now I own both.

The TA is a muscle car.
If you are going drag racing keep the TA.
Solid rear, trans in the front etc...

If you want a sports car or plan on doing street racing, road racing or standing mile or flying mile, buy the Vette.

The only advantage to having a Corvette in drag racing, is if you are going to race in the Corvette Challenge which is a huge event that races out of Raceway Park in NJ.

They have brackets, 11.50 index, the 10.00 DI and an 8.50 index.
It is in a world all its own.
I plan on racing my Vette there.

I am going to keep the Z28 and drive my kids around and go to car shows etc...

I couldn't get enough for my Z28 to make it worth my while to sell.
It has everything, it is just the way I want it. It's perfect.

My advice, keep the TA, save for a Vette.
Then buy the Exact Vette you want for $.25 on the dollar.
I bought both cars for less than the ZO6 would have cost me new in 2002.

Think about it.

I guess you don't realize that even if I sell my TA for 10k, I only have another 8 to spend, and used C6's go for way more than that.

Some great points. I know that even if I sell the TA for a vette, im going to want to buy a TA ASAP and have both. Might as well wait now and do it right the first time.

IMO if you plan on Drag Racing stick with the Fbody, if you want just a nice driver or maybe a auto cross car, I could see the c5 being a viable choice.

The engine being half under the cowl (actually 1/3rd) is not a big deal, If you know what your doing its not an issue. Dealing with a clutch swap on a C5 or a Fuel pump swap are the true PITA jobs.
Here is the run down on some of the prices I have researched for beefing up a TA and a C5's drivetrain (all work being done by a shop).

TA A4:
12 bolt with 3.73 gears + install = 2,950
TA Aluminum Cover + shipping = 250
Rebuilt Trans = 1,995
Total - $5,2400!

Vette A4:
Rebuilt Trans = 1,995
Output Shaft = 650
DTE Brace = 450
3.73 gears + install = 1.250
Total = 4,345

So pretty much the C5 has the luxury of not needing an all new 12 bolt rear. However, the cost to add 3.73 gears in the vette basically negates the difference (especially since if you are adding gears it is dumb not to put in a Torque Converter at the same time. So add another $775).

I am not sure of the F-Body pricing. But you are a bit overboard on the C5 pricing. DTE sells the brace for 350.00 And the output shaft cost 300.00(hardened) or you can buy a c6z06 output shaft for less than 100.00

Bottom line if your going to drag the hell out of the car trust me get the trans am.

I was counting installation costs in those prices. Sorry, I should have broken it out like the others.

So was I. If your doing a trans in a vette the rear has to come out, there bolted together. And if a shop is doing a rear gear and your buying the parts from them as you should there should be no charge to change the shaft since the other is going to be out. And if the shop charged more than 25.00 to install a trans brace while the trans and rear are out of the car they should be shot especially if you bought the product from them. Or they are incompitent and cant install a trans brace. Hell half the work in the trans brace is bolting the mounts to diffential and if your doing a gear swap the covers are off already.... Maybe I am lacking in knowledge?

To be honest it cost about 2K for a rear with a gear of choice and a left hardened output shaft installed. And all new factory clutch packs.

After sleeping on it ive definitely decided to keep the F-bod. Now I feel like a boyfriend who is crawling back to his girl after neglecting her. The vette will have to wait until my mid-life crisis.

I think everyone would like to have a vette. But for me that takes away from some of the appeal. Although it doesnt take away from me still wanting one!

Heres my plan. Keep the T/A because I love it so much and its been such an amazing car to me. It'll be a track and street car, run mid 10's or so? With the D1SC it shouldnt be that hard.

Then later down the road (after 25 or so) get a C6Z06 as a driver and auto-x car. By then they should be pretty affordable.

The T/A will always be a classic icon and special in our hearts so dont give it up!
