Default okay MA boys, want some info.

Just moved back here from FL. Looking at an 01 SS to pick up this weekend.

I have a minimal HP goal of as close to 450 at the tire as I can get without Turbo, Blower or Spray.

I was thinking of going with a mild TSP cam, and a set of TSP heads and maybe a FAST Intake. Obviously in the state of MA, we have emission testing and such. Is there anyone out there running a setup like that who can tell me what I can do to still pass emissions? This is a new concept to me haha!

Also, on a side note, I was thinking of going with a Torquer V3 Cam and PRC Stg 2 5.3 Heads, is that a combo that will work well with a FAST intake to achieve close to 450 at the tire? (Obviously with supporting mods!)

In the mean time, I will continue to scour the web and LS1Tech to find some more answers, but I appreciate any help I can get!!!

THANKS GUYS!!

Phil

Yup a nice H/C setup will get you there. Far as inspection with an odbII vehicle as long as your throwing no codes you are fine. Be warned that many do a visual to look for cats however.

Talk to Slowhawk, he'll set you up. Those PRC heads are a good bang for the buck. If you got the $ trickflow makes a badass set.

Seems like a pretty high goal for a mild cam and stock displacement. From all the dyno results I've seen you'll need a good amount of lift and duration to make that much power.

450 is stout for sure. But it can be achieved especially if he's considering a fast setup on top of it. I have a 228 .571 lift cam and if my car was a M6 and had a 10 bolt along with a Fast intake I'd bet I'd be pretty close on a dynojet.

My advice is to not get caught up in the peak numbers games. It sounds like he wants something driveable and makes good bang for the buck power. Look at the whole package, get good numbers under the curve, keep drivability good. Thats why its in your best interest to talk to a builder/tuner who's been there and done that.

You gotta see where the car sits before as well, he's buying a vehicle and he won't know anything until he gets a baseline. HP is just a number and nothing more, great to say you make 450hp, not great when the guy making 400 just stomped you...

Aside from what has been mentioned and since its some what in the same region. Mikey From Rapid also makes some killer N/A Combos. If you have the scratch, they are another one worth looking into.

Either sponsor you really cannot go wrong with.

What I have learned about when it comes to Cams that they are all ground a little different from the other and the SAME exact cam can make 380 rwhp in one car and put it in another and it belts out 420 rwhp and thats the same shop tuning and the same drive line. Its a odd case but they are out there.

I have a Vengence Cam in the car and it does alright for itself. I think its off compared to other cars with almost exact same set up and year built so go figure. If I do swap it out there are options. Either going Custom from Pat G, or going tried and true TRex which in almost ALL cars have made good Cam only power. I have seen MSx, VRx, and LG cams either make big power or so, so power.

Either way though I don't think you can go wrong, especially if the car built has put up the number, looks good, and would probably satisfy all your needs.

I see that all the time if the 450 car was a M6 with a so so driver and the 400 car was a stalled auto from a stop.

My 383 LT1 Auto did a lot of LS1 slaughtering back in the day and I quite enjoyed it.

Only time it sucked is then they wanted to "Rice from a Roll" Then it was all sorts of bad.

Ill continue to look around and look at dyno videos etc to see what combo does work.

One of you nailed it right on the head tho, I want a car that makes good power and has a nice curve for good drivability. I will be sticking with an M6 and probably going with some 4.10s in the back. It's going to be a street car and that's it. Just something I can enjoy personally, I don't need to go out beating people, I don't care about that...

in reference to the Cat's, that I was aware of, when I get the car my immediate plan is for a nice set of headers, catted y pipe and some sort of cat back.
