8.1's are as cheap as 5.3's.. That would make for a good gasser tow rig..

Well now that everyhting is wired up for it I can pretty much swap whatever comes along into it! I really think once I get it driving it is going to end up with a small turbo hanging off the passenger side haha, just to help when its pulling heavy loads.....

I am not worried about the trans, when I tow my car with my fathers truck i run the 4l60 in drive to keep it from burning up the tranny jumping from OD to 3rd anyhow. I would think that the 400 will handle it a hell of a lot better then the 4l60 does! Plus i am not hauling a big enclosed, just a small 18ft open with my car on it...We'll see what happens, I would love to run a OD trans, but I can't figure out how to mate an OD to the np205.

its not the tranny that wont handle it, just the rpm on the highway i dont like.
my 72 i used to tow my 20 foot boat and my bike trailer. boat was about 4000 pounds with trailer and it had no issue, but 60 mph was like 3,000 rpm. lol
