The list is posted, bios are up - several cats are scheduled to die tomorrow. Please HELP THEM!!!

The shelter is open until 7PM, call NOW if you can adopt or rescue. DO NOT LEAVE A MESSAGE!!! Hit 0 at the end of each message cycle until someone answers. Dont forget to take note of animal ID, also, email: adoption@nycacc.org.

***Do not tie up shelter phone lines unless YOU are planning on going there, in-person, to adopt. One does NOT need to be local to adopt an animal. Shelter staff will happily explain what you need to bring with you( Usually State picture ID, proof of residency, and, if you do not own your home, a copy of your lease or letter stating pets are allowed from your landlord). Do NOT call the shelter asking them to "hold" a cat for you unless you FULLY intend on following through to pick the animal up in the timeframe given. Placing a "fake hold" onto an animal prevents another person from adopting it and may likely be the direct cause of its death. Don't do it. Don't even think about it.***

You can also apply to foster / adopt with a rescue and get approved in advance to save an animal, yes! get approved by an APO TODAY to foster/adopt later on. That way, no mad dash! You are already approved. The earlier you plan, the better.

*CLICK links under an individual rescue name. This will bring you to their website. You can then find contact info, which at least includes an email, if not a phone. A LOT OF RESCUES HAVE APPLICATIONS RIGHT ON THEIR SITE.

*When writing them, be sure to indicate the animal id number, name and shelter location in the SUBJECT line. You must include all contact info for yourself, including email and phone. Explain to them that the animal is on the ACC euthanasia list for the next morning and that you would like to foster/adopt.

Remember this is time sensitive...They begin killing by 6am the next morning after these lists are posted. Placing applications with more than one group increases the chances of someone being able to see and respond quickly-- this improves your chances of being approved. When at all possible, please try to fill out applications and get approved to adopt or foster BEFORE the animal is on "the list" and it is at the 11th hour!
