Palmer Motorsports Park - MA
Anyone plan on going to some events at this place? Looking to do an HPDE/time trial in early June at this place (I think it's still on and will be openb by then)?

Launching!
I'd like to, but need more events under my belt. I drove by not to long ago and it looked good from the road, but that's like 1/4 mile from the track. If you'd like to pay me, I can hike up from the back side and peek in. I knew that area VERY well growing up 5 min. from there.

COMSCC is a good club, I would recommend Thompson speedway for a beginner though. Speeds are a little lower, but it's technical and keeps you busy. Thompson is typically the cheapest also. Palmer is going to be big, fast, and technical with plenty of walls to hit. A lot of the track was blasted into the hillside. That being said, I can't wait to get there. Also make sure COM will refund you or put you in another event in case the track isn't ready. My boss was there with the SCCA a weekend or two ago and said there is a lot of work to be done. I guess all the snow in Feb really hurt progress.
If you are looking to do more events, I would recommend Northeast Track Days. Great prices, plenty of track time.

I joined COMSCC last year and raced their two day event at Thompson. They are a great club and it was an awesome learning experience. My plan was to do at least two events with them again this year, Palmer on June 6/7 and Thompson in July. My buddy who I was planning on racing with just suffered a heart attack this past week, so we may move around which events we go to depending on his recovery though.

They will set you up with a mentor, ask lots of questions and be prepared to listen when you go. As of now I am still planning to race that weekend just waiting on the registration to open up for that event.

I'm bringing my daily driver out there and so are the few others that I know are going. So you don't necessarily need a racecar to have fun. Plus the majority of this is an HPDE, meaning education and not an actual race so it can be any car that you enjoy regardless of how slow it may be. It's all about learning the car and driving it, not so much competing.
The time trial part may or may not be worth it for someone with little/no experience or without an actual track car.

Yeah that's true. I just have an stalled auto, little worried about cooking it for laps. I should probably just throw a trans temp gauge in. I have a LT1 / T56 car sitting in my yard I should throw the drivetrain in something and make it a track car. Or just bomb that around the track. It has a smacked quarter.

Here's to hoping it won't be a scorcher that day.

Went there twice, it was nice and tight with a lot of elevation changes.
Oh and if KLaBZ28 is still following this, the auto trans and stall did great as far as heating up. Even after a 20 minute session on a hot 80* day the trans fluid temp barely broke 200*. This was with a 3000 stall and relatively big stacked plate cooler.
I was hoping to keep the temps under 250*, but it never got even close to that.

Fantastic track. Not one I would call tight, it's very fast and flowing. Track is 40-60 feet wide so passing is easy. Elevation change is incredible, great variety of corners.
Very challenging track. A fast lap demands a lot from a driver. While the pavement is wide, runoff room is scarce. No straights at all. The front "straight" is one big long right sweeper. I was running right around 2 minutes flat in my 2000 Z28 on street rubber.
Flat out loved the track, without a doubt it is one of the best in the country.

It does demand a lot, I lost it coming out of turn one, turned in too early and ran out of track on the way out. One tire hit the dirt and sent me around pretty darn quick!! I thought i was going to wreck, but managed to keep it on the pavement. It is a very fast track and was pretty intimidating in a powerful heavy car like mine. I'll be back though as it has haunted me all off season and I really want another crack at it!!

Awesome, thanks guys for the information. I live 10 minutes away and after walking the track in its early stages it was pretty clear it was going to be challenging and nowhere near the run off room of say Lime Rock...plus there was rock ledge everywhere.
Can't wait, hoping to get out there this year.
