Default Manhattan peeps, question about parking

My g/f and I are thinking about cruising up to NYC for a day late next week to do some shopping and sightseeing (as long as the strike ain't going on still). I've been there before, but never drove there. How secure are the parking garages? I'll be driving my Jeep Wrangler with a softtop, so anyone can break in it. Are the garages pretty well guarded?

it all depends on where you park. some places seem more secure than others, but i have never experienced or known anyone who has experienced theft in one.
midtown underground parking garages always seem to be the best guarded to me.
i was in the city this afternoon - got in and parked midtown on the west side with ease

Thanks! I guess I'll roll the dice. Still kinda paronoid. Last time I was there, I stayed in an expensive Hotel next to Times Square. While I was out of the room, a cleaning lady went in with her door card and stole some stuff. Can't trust anyone.

Generally, the midtown garages (meyers, etc) are safe.. they have MB, Bentleys, etc.

THe outdoor ones suck.. the packe em in.. etc.

Make sure you come after the Mta strike is settled.5th & Madison Ave's are closed.Traffic is gridlocked and it would not be worth the headache. You also need 4 people in your car to get below 96st.I agree with Bob put your car in a parking garage.

Just don't expect your bumpers to come out unscathed...the guys in the garages will unfortunately literally park the cars bumper-to-bumper in there and there will be rub marks/scrapes. Also they will take fast cars on ferris buller type rips so definitely leave the Trans Am at home!
