Default shop/guy to do an LS1 swap in my third gen?

I'm broke and all the mechanics here are crooks! Would anyone be willing to swap in an LS1/T56 into my 1991 Pontiac GTA, or know of a shop that could do it? I want the job done right, no corners cut.

Thanks!
Bill

Those two statements don't go very well together...

I'm not sure of any shops that have experience with that kind of swap, but I'd start by calling a few of the site sponsers near you.. they might be able to help you out, or atleast send you in the right direction.

I was thinking of the same thing. Maybe post up what kind of range or budget figure you'd like to stick to.

I would make a thread on the regional board on www.thirdgen.org

see if u can find a local to help you install it at a reasonable price.

the swap is pretty darn expensive even with finding the engine and tranny cheap.

people have spent 10k on it installed at like a shop, doing it their selves maybe like 5 to 6k.

i helped my buddy put a ls1/t56 setup in his 67 GTO last year it is ALOT of work and alot of little surprises will come up costing you more money. if your gonna have a shop do it dont expect to get out "cheap" there not being crooks there being honest.

I'd love to have an LSx turd gen, just because I have a soft spot in my heart for 3rd gens, but they're usually not too quick unless you go with a carb'd SBC. But I think thats a project you either have to do yourself, or be really close with a shop and have a boatload of cash to drop on it. There's going to be hang ups along the way, and may be little things that go wrong over time, that could be an easy fix if you did it yourself, but would require the car to be down for days while you try to schedule an appointment with the shop.

Value-wise buying a used LS1 4th gen will probably be cheaper.

With little or no money your better off keeping your money. I once thought like you and I ended up with bullshit like Pacesetter headers that rotted, their POS y-pipeand other garbage just for the sake of saying I had stuff.

Now the new car doesnt get **** if it isnt good stuff. Matter of fact I dont even drive the hunk of crap. I might wash it this year, I'm debating.

cant really knock him for wanting to do it ace. pricewise a 98-99 would be alot cheaper but just not the same as having a third gen with a ls1. check out the hybrid section sometime. great reads in there. is it easy? no , is it cheap? hell no
but you know what its worth the time and effort in the end.

I say do it yourself, this was my first motor swap and its actuly not that hard as long as you search. Just let me know if you have any questions, i'm in Boston right now for another few weeks if you wanted to see one.
