Have you killed a new 06? Not saying it's fast at all, but the new 06 is not the same car as the 05 back, they have a 2.5 motor not the older 2.0, and there's a big difference, after driving both it's very noticable. 06's have a different nose, don't look like 05's, if you have played with one, you'd know it.

Personally I think the car is god in first gear, after that to me there's nothign all too exciting going on. I did test drive a cobalt ss before buying the wrx, I thought they felt about the same as far as speed, except the subie had tons more traction, and seemed to feel more nimble. Certainly is better then the cobalt would have been in the snow that I'm sure of, the subie went thru 2 feet of unplowed untracked snow when we had that big storm back in jan/feb, with not a single issue, I doubt the cobalt was gonna be up for that... which was the main reson I went with teh subie over the cobalt.

Both fun to drive as a daily though.

subie is no doubt a better winter car...stock cobalts trap 101...go by that..not sure what the 06 subi does? mph is a good indicator of overall speed. Getting them to 60' is another story an can hold nothing against an awd subi. The one i raced had aftermarket lights an other things so im not sure. I dont think the kid could afford the new one though.

NOt sure then which year it was. the new ones the nose is all different, looks more like a legacy from the fron then the boxy looking WRX of old. I don't know how much faster it is then the old ones, only know that I test drove a 2005 leftover and the new one, and I drove a 05 STI trade in, the new one felt as fast as 05 sti, and they wanted less $ for a brand new car then they did an 05 STI with 3900 miles on it, and both these were faster feeling then the 05 wrx leftover that the delaer had... so the choice was easy. As for how fast it is, I have no idea. I absolutely refuse to take it to a track and ever find out, let alone do anything other then reg. maintenance to it.... I have one car to play with and that's enough. With the way it's looking, I'll ned up having my garage up before the $ together for the new motor for the transam, and if that ends up beign the case, the transam is going to get pushed into the garage, and probably won't come out for a couple years, but when it does... clear the way LOL. If the garage goes up first, About 1/2 an hour after the garage floor sealer stuff dries, I'll have my roll away in the garage, and about 5 minutes after that the transam will be in there, and about a week later, it will be a bare shell going in for a cage.. and I have a feeling that about 500 lbs of stuff will get left out when it goes back together... if I ever get it back together.

06 wrx is 230 hp an over 3100 pounds...06 cobalts(ungodly underrated..low dynos have been 215-220 at the wheel) some are putting out more then 230 at the wheel an weigh 2910. Should be a close race stock for stock.

Also they are going 13.8, 13.9 average but at 97-98mph...there are cobalts in the same range with horrible 60'. I think it would be a drivers race stock for stock

Funny, I just looked it up myself, found the same thign to be true. if I ever get the urge to spice it up a little, I'll get teh catless up pipe, down pipe, good catback for it, a set of injectors and a fuel pump, the oversized top mount ( for simplicity reasons ) and a boost controller, and we can go play. I figure by the time I ever do any of that, you'll probably have nitrous on your cobalt, so it will be a close race again. But, like i said, i ahve one car to monkey with, this one will never see more then a new air filter and oil changes... and brakes/tires as nessassary.

Too bad you already modded that thing up, would have been a fun race stock for stock.

dave, car aint together yet, but all the parts are here, or are on their way. hopefully by the end of next month it will be running. then it will still need to go out for the cage. so it probably wont be completely together until mid-summer
