Default GI: Cam swap help

Ok, just lookig to guage interest on this. Sometime this year(around summer, most likely), I want to do a cam swap. All the shops in this area are quoting me north of $900 for the labor. I'm just curious if anyone would like to give up a weekend and help me do it myself. I'm only interested in people that have done this before. I will be swapping the cam, valvesprings, pushrods, and timing chain(possibly oil pump as well). Of course, i'll help wherever I can, and I really would like to learn more about how this is done. I'd be willing to pay someone about $350 for their help, and I can either travel to you, or the work can be done in my driveway. I live in Newport News, and will go as far as Virginia Beach. Also, I would need some tools provided unless they are very cheap(then I would be willing to purchase them). I have a nice tool set, but will need a cam puller tool, and a spring compressor. Post it in your local boards which are located down at the bottom of the list. I'd venture to guess that would be a better place to solicit for help.

That's a good idea, but I don't see Virginia listed in any of those groups. which do you think would be the best to use?

^^^^ I wouldn't be super enthusiastic about travelling to Maryland, but if I could stay with you overnight(assuming it takes more than one day), then I would certainly appreciate your expertise. This is at least a few months down the road though.

I'd be willing to help ya out. I did my cam and headers this past September. With the right tools and the room to work its not difficult at all.

I have a valvespring removal tool and the hose/fittings to pump your cylinders with air for the spring swap. I would recommend a ported oil pump since you are going to be in there. We can use the waterpump bolts to slide the cam out. No need to get a tool for that unless you absolutely want one.

Is this your daily driver? I ask since you want to learn I would want to take a reasonable amount of time to show you and ensure you understand.

What cam are you thinking about going with?

And finally.... I dont want your money Lunch is cool.

^^^That sounds awesome, i'll let you know when i'm ready. As for the cam puller tool, if it's cheap, i'd like to have it, if not, then I won't get it. The car is my DD, but if the swap happens to take more than a weekend that's fine, cause I have another car I can drive(so long as i'm not out of a car for like more than 4 days). The cam is a 230/232 .595 .598 on a 114LSA. I see you're in the Navy, that's cool. My dad was in the Navy for 25 years.
