Default Rearend broke, going 4.10's

As some or most of you recall. I went to the track about 2 weeks ago. On the 2nd full pass I ran a 12.8 with a 1.9X 60 foot. I didnt mention then I had a violent wheel hop issue during a burnout. The car has good tractions, the M/T just wanted to stick and LVD is stingy on the water for the burnout box.

Long story short, with out Line Lock, when I revved to the moon and dump the clutch, the car started to push and I jammed on the brakes, the back wheels hopped. I didn't like it but the car did well enough. On the turn after I crossed the line, I could hear clunking noise and the rear tires felt like the posi wasnt disengaging. Like it was a spool.... I had the rear for 2k miles in a LT1 camaro with a auto, and about 400 in this car. The Tru Trac was transparent. Welp now its acting like a locker, acting broken....

Well I did a ton of research and apparently this is a older unit from before Eaton's purchase off the company that made the diff. Moser had built this rear, its out of warrentee and no warrentee is implied in the 1st place.

I shopped around for prices, some I found to be a bit high and other just right. Sean from Eastside got me a great price and can get me in next to get the job done! All I can say is that guy is a hard worker and bends over backwards for yea!

I found out from Moser and Sean that the axles are cut different for a Eaton HD and Tru Trac, I cannot afford new axles, im stretched to the limit. But Sean found out that Eaton offers upgraded units so I have better faith in it. Also some other customer had a 9" with that unit, same day call about that issue lol.

I got a track day May 25th, we will see how she does, id like a 12.4 at 110 but we will see. She is a street car that needs line lock, if I can swing it, ill be getting that too.

Wish me luck

Im such a dork and I should know this, Moser 12 bolts are 4.11's not 4.10 lol. I was considering 4.30's and there were some good Pro's for doing it but if it would require a 28" tall tire... and this is a street car, again, a little much.

if you were doing a cam now and not adding any other power adders I would do the 4:30's now lol

ya won't need to go to a 28 inch tire until you plan on trapping at about 120..... do the 4.30's You have 2 overdrives, I promise you won't regret that. 6th gear will just be usable now.

The car is heavy... it needs all the help to get it moving you can give it!

Just ran the calculator, as it stands, 26" tall tire, 6000 rpm limit. in 4th gear at 6000 it says 108mph. I did 107.9 I would think I would gain over all, I would definitly be hitting the limiter with bolt ons and stock weight. With a 6700 limit it would be 121 before hitting the limiter.

If it was the camaro id def do it, or rather it having 4L60e, i would be putting 4.10s instead of 3.73s

It will be close as it is now, but that's what you want it to be..... when you put a cam in it it will probably be set to 6800 that's standard and with a cam like you want to run it will pull to there.... you'll be fine. If you can get to 120 with just a cam in a 3700+ lb car you're doing damn well.

I think every 6spd car should have 4:10's. Makes the car a hundred times more fun.

Don't worry about it bro, I have broken my 12-bolt at least 3 times. I have 4.56's now and LOVE IT!

Yea, when you think you pay 2500-2700 dollars for a rear, It would hold up. I know it more has to do with the weight of the car and the dead hook is what is the death of it.

Driveability and enjoyment is are the goals of the car 4.10's will do the job nicely, its not track optinum but thats not what I am going for.

And the funny thing is, every time I grenade a posi unit, or shear all the teeth of the ring gear and call Strange for replacement parts they tell me how wonderful their 12-bolts are at holding power and are simply shocked that I broke it, yet they still charge me for the parts.

Though I will admit the last time I creamed a set of gears this past November, I order a set of regular Motive 4.56's for $179 but did recieve a $259 set of Strange Pro 4.56's

So maybe they felt bad LOL or they fucked up in the shipping department

Many people who know me on here know that I swore up and down that I would never get 4.10's Now I have 4.56 and LOVE IT. Granted my car loves to rev to 7000 and would go higher if the springs let it, but its still fun to see the rpm fly up with a set of 4.56's

I think you will thoroughly enjoy your car with 4.10's in it.

Thats very true, them talkin their **** up to be the best but when it comes time to give away parts due to not being quite the best, they have empty pockets rofl.

The car will be night/day going from 3.42's to 4.10's.I'm sure the track times will drop alot.I'm also taken that you'll have a lineloc by then too.

As for rears. The only rears I've seen last are the Moser 9" with lockers.Even them I've seen 1 pinion bearing fail but never a posi or gear problem.

On my strange I went through 2 gear set's,1 posi and 2 33spline axles.
