Default Can anyone recommend a good mechanic in the North NJ (Paterson/Clifton) area?

Recently, my car (a 1998 Pontiac Trans Am) has not been running as smoothly as I would like, and I would like to get the car checked out to make sure everythign is ok. My initial inclination was to take the car to a Pontiac Dealership and see if they can diagnose my problem, but I've heard so many stories about dealerships doing a decent job, but way overpricing the repairs. It's just so difficult to verify that you are getting decent work from a mechanic who truly knows your car.

I tried searching the forum to find mechanics, but it is hard to differentiate mechanics/shops (in the traditional sense, fixing probs with the car) from shops that are more geared towards the aftermarket/upgrade industry.

That said, does anyone know any decent shops (I'd prefer local, but don't mind distance for a good shop) to diagnose and repair problems with my car? Thanks.

I think TTP is right in Passaic NJ. Or Cartek is in Garwood. Both have banners off to the right for contact info. I'm not sure if either of them do general repair work but I'm pretty sure either one of them could point you in the right direction.

It must be a very small world. I noticed most of you guys recommending TTP. When I went to lunch today, in the parking lot of the strip mall I was in, I noticed a guy wearing a TTP t-shirt. I will try contacting them.

Which strip mall? That's funny we are right past Food basics going into Passaic on van houten ave, next to van houten auto body before broadway. Come on by one day or call us 973 365 2270.
