I'm just posting this as a my car sucks right now post. Not to bash a vendor. We are working on it, and hopefully this next weekend I will have better news. It's a long story and a lot of time/energy/ATF spent.

It will all come around, it's just frustrating.

BTW the tranny itself did not fail, it's an attempt to fix a shifting issue, that got a little deeper than intended. We'll see what happens.

BlackScreaminMachine Oct 10, 2007 12:53 PM

Thats good, I know we had talked about that when you got the rear, if your munching up 4L60e's its time for an upgrade. GL with itdan

Slowhawk Oct 10, 2007 01:41 PM

4L60's can easilly be built to handle the power of these cars and never break, even for cheap money. I just can't see why some of these shops can't figure it out.My local guy has built a few for us and they work extremely well and take all the abuse.

I think a 4l60E can take the power I'm throwing at it, well under 500 rwhp. It's mostly how you drive it. Lots of harsh kickdowns and high rpms, amongst other things will put a hurting on it. Nothing lasts forever, but a well built 4l60E in my car that see's 6-7k miles a year and a couple dozen track passes should last for a few years. Plus I need the OD.

This particular tranny has had some shifting issue's since day one, I'm changing the VB and separator plate in order to try and fix them, it's just that the 3rd time wasn't a charm. So I'm getting another sent to try again.

BTW the 1st time it acted like a MVB, weird... By the time I'm done with this "assuming it all works" shift kits should be no problem for me. I went into this not knowing squat, just opened it up with the help of a couple buddies.

Of course one just stands there and drinks beer's :D, but I can't say anything bad it's his lift and I've been storing my car amongst other parts there for a while. Good to have good buddies.

After all this I need a race converter, The one I got is better for the street and from a roll, not as much TQ multiplication.

If anyone is interested I have a fully built 4l60e tranny for sale with about 2000 miles on it and about 6 months old built by a local performance/tranny shop. Anyone interested just pm me for details. Could also arrange a meeting with the tranny builder also.

I agree, However I think this tranny can handle it, it's just does me no good if it's not shifting.

I don't want it to come down to replacing this tranny, but after my next attempt if no dice that may happen in some way, shape, or form.

I think it all depends on the builder, too many shops with techs that think they can build performance transmissions. My LT1 ate 2 of them with mild 2000 stall converters and bearly cracking 390 rwhp, a very expensive replacement both times.

If someone can find a good, reliable shop, stick with them.

I myself rather trust a better part then crap shoot for a better tech.

One of the problems is everybody starts off with a 4l60E so you're gonna hear a lot of failure's happening. But it has been proven that you can build a 500hp 10 sec capable one that will last.

Most guys can't afford a 4l80E and conversion, or don't want the extra weight and drivetrain loss. A TH400 is not a good option for me as I want to drive my car on the street. So all you can do is build what you got.

Here is a fully built tranny.Alot of good parts and shift's no problem when it's suppose to.

I can tell a good build when I tune them. If the tranny will take a commanded shift 50rpm before the rev limiter and never touch the limiter then it's all good. Too bad I haven't seen it yet out of alot of tranny's sold here.

JL ws-6 Oct 10, 2007 06:03 PM

maybe a 200r4 like the GN's use, those guys have OD and seem to have good luck with them at high power levels. I knwo that century can build oen with a full manual valvebody and I think a transbrake too. Not sure what they go for or what they weigh, but if ya can't get the issues resolved and need another option, might be worth looking into.

Speedy0009 Oct 10, 2007 08:20 PM

You'll get it together Dan, If not there's always the T-56 Swap!! ;)

Hope to see it racing before the end of the month! Good luck with it! :chug:
