Default Help me pick a D/D

Help me decide on a new daily driver.

I've narrowed it down to 3 vehicles. All used and under under $15 grand.

I'm leaning towards a 4WD SUV. I currently have a 93 Cherokee w/ 200k on it It could go in a few weeks or a few months. So...

1) 03/04 Grand Cherokee, V8 4.7 loaded
2) 03/04 Trailblazer, loaded
3) 04/05 Grand Prix, 3.8 s/c

Either one will probably have under 50k miles on it. I kinda like having 4wd and sitting a bit higher in traffic (live in the sticks), plus the cargo room and towing capabilities are a plus. I threw in the GP as a better gas mileage option.

I carpool with 2 other guys, so I need room too. Basically I need to decide between the 2 SUV's, dependability is a big plus for me and my current jeep has been awesome, but a lot of people like their TB's and the shop that does some of my work likes the Trailblazer's better. What do you guys think?

My consideration always takes in to factor Gase Milage, so the Grand Prix is my choice but between 2 SUV, id never get any Dodge/Chrysler. All of the big 3 hve their own issues with their respective SUV's but id take a Chevy over any of the other 2, my mother had a 1999 Explorer v6 and it was nice, no *****, and 14 mpg, that kinda sucked. Alot of electrical issues.

Out of the 3 you've listed....I'd go with the grand prix.....gas prices are out of hand.....and they are only going to get worse. SUVs are pigs on gas!!! But if you were to get one...I'd go with the Jeep...afterall yours is currently at 200k. Good luck with whatever you end up getting.

Both SUV's get 20mph hwy

Whats a S/C GP get 26-27? Plus you need to run premium fuel. So that's a consideration, I know gas is going up but stepping up to either SUV get's me better mileage over my current ride atleast by a few LOL.

I'll never buy an Exploder. And yes Ford has a lot of electrical issues. Buddies 98 mountaineer has a mind of it's own.

VS

As far as looks go it's close for me.

My Mom had an 04 GTP CompG, it was a very sweet car, looked like this one.

After having a SUV and tossing stuff in it and beating on it, I'm kind of used to having a nice 4x4. Plus the added insurance of not getting stuck in the snow is nice.

The winters around PA haven't been bad lately(maybe 2 days a year a fwd car wouldn't get you through the snow) so I would go with the GP. I don't know how the winters have been up there though. My vote is the GP.

I just got an 01 Grand Cherokee Limited with the 4.7. I chose a jeep because my mom has driven Grand Cherokees since 93, and they have been dead reliable. I couldnt be happier with my new daily driver.

Yeah, Fords do some crazy things.... well, at least that one does! 110k on it and all kinds of funky things go on with it! BTW, it's a 97'.

I say get the GP and enjoy the better mileage. If it looks like some crazy weather have one of your other commuter guys drive that day. Should be cheaper maintenance costs too.

I see 32 mpg highway and 25 mpg around town with my slightly modded GTP. It definitely is a great daily driver. The only downside is having to use premium fuel with the supercharger. With that said, just get GP GT instead.

Another thing pushing me towards the jeep, it's it's offroad ability. It will run circles around the TB. Which is good for hitting the trails fishing/hunting, or just messing around a bit. The V8 model is a 5 speed auto, and actually get's a little better mileage than the 6. I like the TB but I think I might be short changing myself with the offroad capabilities.

Both vehicles are abundant but I have noticed for the same price it seems like you get a lot more in the Jeep. The Jeeps are priced a little more aggressively too.

If i got a GP it would be s/c.

Decisions decisions...

I'd get a supercharged GP. I'm kind of in the same situtation and gas is going to be crazy soon and i dont see it letting up like it usually does so my tahoe may not be my dd for much longer. My grandmother 99 GC got about 13-14 with the 4.7 and had a lot of stuff start going wrong around 80k

Yeah 2001 they added the 5 speed.

I know it's a tough call. I just keep thinking I'll miss the SUV if I go that route.

If you don't "need" the 4x4 then definitely the GP. I'd even say just get the 3800 and forget the S/C to save a few bucks. I had a '98 GP with the 3800, then gave it to me parents when I bought the Trans Am years ago. The car is still in the family with over 140K on it and runs like a champ. A nice four door GT with the 3800 would be sweet, the S/C would be just a tad more power.....

If I didn't tow and move things around with my Silverado I would definitely have another GP in my driveway!

The Grand Cherokee's have transmission issues.... You don't want more of those do you?

No that's for sure.

However the 454RFE is suppose to be a pretty good tranny. Heck the A4 in my 93 is the factory unit with 200k on it. I haven't checked the fluid in over 60k miles when I 1st got it, lol. Guess it's hit or miss.

jeep rides better , TB better drivetrain, gp gas milage but wont be the best in the snow. save your money and spend half of 15g on an ok truck/suv and save the rest . tb dont get good milage either regardless of what there stated at . a tahoe or avy would be a much better choice then the TB. and with the newer ones and the 3.42's 18-20mpg is possible
