Something different.....
This is a nice one
1961 Belair Coupe (Orig. 6cyl stick car)
Manual brake/Manual Steering (Could easily convert to disc brakes)
Engine 1963 409 (Solid Lifter 425HP Dual Quads)
Saginaw 4sp (Steel case)
Rearend 1963 Pumkin Posi (3.70's)
Car is straight and clean with new interior and paint
Needs alittle kindness under the hood but presentable..
The car has the wrong ex manifolds on it and air cleaner is gone
(425 cars had a mid length style manifolds and this style is for a 360 hp car)
Has aftermarket knee knocker tach but clock, oil, charge gauges, missing radio, correct shifter on the floor and its a bench seat with 2-tone interior..
I really like the car...
U young guys on here like older cars or are just into the new stuff..
Here's a few pics of the car...
I think I could grab it for 23,000 (He wants 25,000)

The correct manifolds are $$$ so that hurts it...
Only the SS cars came ps/pb but that can be added although I dont need ps..
I would add pb....
The 409 emblems are wrong on the front fenders,Only 62 and up had them
1961 409's are very rare if real, they only made 142 of them..
Bubble top 61 Belairs are getting rare, this is a nice bubble top with no rust and decent paint and new interior too..Sure its a clone but a nice one at that and if u were going to buy a 61 Bubble top 409 360HP car it would be over 45K and u couldnt drive it w/o being nuts..

have you seen it in person
I have somone looking at it for me in AR as we speak
JS, just make sure you'll get enjoyment out of it. You have been spoiled by the ride/handling/braking of 4th gen LS1s and GTOs, that lone would steer me away from an older car as nice and simple as they are.

A L34 350HP 396 Chevelle can be had for under 30K in nice shape
The GTO's are funny they can be 65K and under 25K depending on the car..I would take a 65 4sp tri-power car but there hard to find, mostly 66 and 67's and there not as pretty a the 64/65...
The Dual Quad 61 409 Clone is a bad *** car,U dont see them at many car shows. They ran well and this car is pretty solid,I am waiting to get the report back from the guy looking at it for me...
I also like the 1970 Camaro Z/28's too
They can be had for under 30K in nice shape...
1972 Chevelle
Depends on what your tastes are I guess. I also think the price is a little high on the Belair. This time of year the "classic car" dealers sales get slow and they catch a case of "Barrett-Jackson" fever.
A solid lifter dual quad 409 engine is very rare,as is the correct saginaw and pumpkin stlye rearend...This has been checked and it is in fact a 63 drivetrain....Its worth some coin to a guy that has a late 62 or 63 Impala 409 that wants to return it to stock..
The BUBBLE TOP stlye body is worth its weight in gold if its in nice shape...I am going to do some hard thinking,I have a price in mind for the car and if the guy bites I'll buy it an make it a clone 409 car....
If not I'll keep looking for a 64 GTO or BB Chevelle

6 cyl mounts (Motor sits up too high)
Wrong front spings
4.10 gear (That sucks)
Paint okay but ALOT of overspray everywhere
Motor is tired but complete
Trans shifts nice
Overall a fair car and price too high for the work needed to be done
15K and I wouldve bought it,25K no dice.....
Oh well back to looking at 64/65 GTO's
Certainly a clean car but if one thing isnt correct and I am not talking the original motor was replaced with the exact type but just the build date is off enough not to be called #'s matcher at least if the original, it worth coin. But a 6 cyl to a 409 is too big of a gap.
I've owned old cars, I had a 70 Chevelle (NON-SS car), I have a 66 327 #'s matching original and a 68 Camaro RS for a future project with a 327 2 speed PG which will be worth money if I keep it that way, if I change **** out, I better keep it safe and make it where I can replace it easily.
I want to take the 327/2-speed out of the camaro and my father inlaw has a 427 BB motor, I want to put fuel injection up top and a manual trans and drive it, if I sell it, swap it bacl and make some money. This car does not have that potential.
So dont pay too much for it.
So I wont be buying a # matching 409 car......
I have found some REAL NICE # matching 64 GTO's for about 35K
There are near perfect but out of my budget...
I might do the right thing,re-fi my house at 10yrs and stay in it for 5 more yrs..Then sell it and walk away with a decent amount of moola, move into a over 50 community and buy the GTO and just work 5 days a week at Dales shop

Or do the nutty thing and hack myself to the bone and do it now?
Decisions,Decisions....
