Default Anyone want to help me change my oil pan gasket and rear main?

I guess I screwed up the oil pan gasket when I did my cam install. I'll provide pizza and beer if anyone wants to help me change it, I got all the tools needed, and a high speed fan. It's my only car and it sucks to keep filling it with oil to just leak again.

i doubt you messed up the pan gasket, i would just pull the timing chain cover dab some black rtv on the bottom corners just place all the bolts in and snug the pan to cover bolts first then do the rest. i bet that will fix and it would alot easier than pulling the pan.

Idk, it leaks pretty bad, it stops leaking though after a while, but if I put another .5 quart in, it'll start leaking, I guess it leaks bad with X amount of oil in the pan, and after that it stops. Still, I want a full 6 quarts in there. Can I take the timing cover off enough to put RTV on the bottom, or do I have to take the pulley off? When we had it on the lift, It was dripping near the oil filter.

I would thin you could just squirt it in the gap, is the whole pan soaked? It seems odd it would leak from back by the filter maybe just make sure all the bolt are tight

why was the pan off for the cam install? i find it hard to believe u messed it up. if you are seeing oil back there it might just be the main driping down.

Well, I jacked the car up, wiped everything clean, and found out the bolt near the oil filter wasn't even hand tight, plus another bolt on the passenger side that wasn't hand tight either, so 2 bolts loose. I loosened them all, retortqued them in the right sequence, rtv'd some of the edges, cleaned everything up. So far nothing, but we'll see what happens when I get more oil in there. Hopefully it was fixed.

I had the pan dropped to replace the oil pump, and add the oil pickup tube brace.

I guess that's what happens when you work 25 hours straight with barely any food

I'm free to give you a hand tomorrow if need be, but it sounds like it was an easy fix.

Shoot me a PM if something changes

Still have oil leaking...It seems to be puddling up front and slightly dripping around the perimeter of the pan, but I'll jack the car up tomorrow and see whats really going on.

Did you replace the front seal where the pully went on?

Yeah, except I tightened the cover first before putting the pulley back on, It might be coming from there, idk. Maybe tightening the other bolts made the front seal leak now, idk i gotta jack it up tomorrow and see

Well, I didn't look under yet, but I moved the car.

As you can see, I moved the car back about a foot, and it made the same puddle overnight. The light areas are the old puddles, and the new are dark. My guess is, it's leaking bad at 1 spot, and dripping onto the k member, and just drips everywhere. Or, god could **** me, and its dripping around the perimeter of the pan.

It's even leaking on the a-arms, I don't think it's the crank seal, I dont see any oil from there i dont think.

Well, i looked under, and around the pan, and honestly, I don't think the leak is coming from the pan. I checked the oil pressure sensor behind the manifold, and I felt some oil.

Maybe I didn't tighten it enough. I only hand tightened it.

I'm gonna go to advance auto, get the tool to tighten the sensor, and tighten it to 15ftlbs

oil is like everywhere, on the alternator, all over the kmember, a-arms, but i dont see a lot around the pan perimeter.

The balancer is likely throwing it everywhere for it to be on EVERYTHING like that.

You guys think this is it? It doesn't leak when not moving or idling.

Here's what its supposed to look like.

Who thinks this is my problem?

Whether it's the only problem or not, it's definitely a problem that should be addressed ASAP. If the gasket isn't lined up, it has to be leaking all over the place.
