It's a done deal...

I had an interview yesterday at Pratt & Whitney in West Palm Beach. I was offered the position and start on/around 6 Feb 06. Just seeing if there is a GM club around here or where ya'll hang out at?

I will not have my car down here until April or so...depending on how fast I can get it taken care of but it will be down.

Hope to meet some FL F-body people when I get down here next month. :)

You didn't have to remove "bastard"....I always say I'm a "bastard".

Reason....I'd get to the hangout before everyone else when I had my P1SC on my car....for umm..."noise" reasons. I couldn't tell you how many mustang/import owners would talk crap (I had one turbo'd civic who beat most of the other guys there say "nothing under 80K can touch my car" only to have me go, oh yea...and when I started it up...everyone was like...crap. Needless to say he got his ass handed to him.) and say, Your car looks stock..can't be that fast...its only a v6(one tail pipe) or 'whats that noise'*talking about the P1SC* and I'd say..."its my water pump going out". :jest: What can I say?

True the track is right there, but I don't know what shift I'd be working or what not. Not only that, my car will be in OKC for a bit longer so I will only have the ghetto-scort right off the bat.

BTW, how hard is it to register your car in FL? I just got an apartment in *edit* a few hours ago. (I'm at the airport getting ready to fly back to Hartford CT right now....not by choice) <grins>

Well, it's just nice to be down the street from the track. I can't tell you how many times I've gone out that way to turn around for rain........nice and sunny near 95 in WPB yet it's pouring on the Beeline. :bang:

It's not hard, you will need your title in hand. When I did it, my GTP was only a year or so old. They asked the lien holder for the copy of the title. There is no emissions and there shouldn't be any inspection. I do know it cost me about $180 to do it. And you are said to have like 2 months to change it over. You have to show FL insurance on it as well to get it registered. Not a big deal. If you still have property out of state in your name the car can stay registered there for up to 6 months.

Bradley Int'l.......aah, must feel nice to step off the plane and feel that cold air........worse outside the terminal. Sorry, had to do it I was born and raised in CT and fly in and out of there to see Family. :)

I hear ya on the rain. I remember back in 01 when I was in Ocala visiting my friend from high school that still lives there. We're going down the road in my 5.0 and its pouring on one side and dry as a bone on the other. :eek2:

Sounds like its pretty easy to tag a car in FL. The Escort no problem, but I'll wait for the TA to come down before I go to tag it. Insurance isn't a problem either, but I plan on changing companies unless my current company drops their prices by a TON. Who does everyone go with here...Farmers? State Farm? All State? Progressive? If you don't want to say in an open forum, that's fine, I understand that the way some insurance companies are today.

Don't remind me about the cold. I grew up in PA and got out as soon as possible. Yes, nothing like cold CT air hitting you but at least it wasn't to bad and ghetto-scort started right up. So it was all good and I didn't have to "hang out" in BDL.

I'll check out the local board tomorrow. Hope all is well.

Matt

Well I had Allstate when I first moved here, then changed over to AIG with my T/A........but Metlife has been the best so far for me price wise considering my home is insured with them too. Your Insrurance may be cheaper living out of Palm Beach County because you will be in Martin Cty. So that's a good thing and don't rule out getting insured through a Co that some credit union members get advantages from.......I would assume that Pratt would be members of a CU.

Sure thing, we can chat when you get a chance I and most are on the local board everyday.

We'll all have a get together BBQ in the coming months between our board an the guys over at www.sffba.net (Broward and Miami Fbods)

Yes, Pratt employees (if I remember correctly) get a "nice rate" from MetLife for insurance...so I am going to have to look into it. I also believe Pratt also has their own CU also.

As far as the bbq, sounds good to me! Just don't mind me if I show up in ghetto-scort if I don't have my TA down here in time. :jest: I'll check out the SFFBA and Palm Beach site also. Thanks for the links!

Yes, the BBQ is going to be a big get together of cars from up your way, down to Miami and across from Naples/Ft Myers....... Going to get the masses together for a nice spring BBQ should be a big turnout of Fbods you will have fun.

Metlife has been really good for me, I mean one call they insure you, one call they make a change........no problems at all.

The track junkies pretty much live at PBFbody if you are into racing? I know I am........if you get bored we will be racing this weekend at a track we rented in Tampa, Fbods, a few Stangs, Vettes and GN's. Should be a fun day, info is posted on the board.

Talk to you later!

Got Me SOM Jan 19, 2006 10:50 AM

I remembering looking at pratt and whitney years ago, they looked like a great company. What will you be doing there, do you mind saying what they're gonna pay? Are they still hiring?

The BBQ sounds awesome! I don't know if I want to bring the ghetto-scort now...LOL I hope to have my car done by the end of march, is that going to be enough time?

I'm into race'n but I've basically been on the road 95% of the time since Oct 03 so I haven't had a chance to race my car very often at the track. I love going to the 1/4 mile track and I want to get back into autocrossing also.

If anyone wants to hit me up on AIM, feel free...darkblueta. I'm back in CT...I put in my 2 week notice on my contract job today and will be down in FL around the 10th.

Take care

I'll be inspecting Rocket and Space shuttle engine parts using florescent penetrant and eddy current inspection techniques. Starting for me is 20.02/hr + OT and once I get my Level II Certifications again, it will be a few more dollars/hr. Thats pay + full benifits.

Hiring, I know they are looking for Radiography Techs...so if you know Xray, you might want to put a resume' for the position.

Hey Matt check in with us after you get all settled in down here. We are now planning the BBQ so we are thinking towards March sometime.

All the info will be posted on both sites.

Take it easy and beware of old People driving!
