Default Grassroots Motorsports $2008 Challenge Civic.

Before you guys start name calling and throwing a hissy fit and get your panties in a wad, READ!

My dad and I have been wanting to do the GRM $200x challenge for the past few years, but never had the time or the car or couldn't find one. We got this Civic for dirt cheap and decided to use it for the challenge. You can only spend $2008 on the car itself and the mods. The challenge consists of a day of autocrossing, a day of drag racing, and a "concours" in between.

We themed the car after the Red XA coupe in MadMax2: The Road Warrior.
Car has a T3/T4 56mm turbo with an air-to-air intercooler, ebay coil-overs, ebay sway bar and rear tie bar, used Hoosier R-comps, craigslist rims, and so on.

I'm in Gainesville right now for the event. Everything is taking place at the Gainesville raceway. If any of you g-ville folks want to come out there feel free to it's free. There are some interesting cars entered. I saw someone with a SBC in a Porsche 944. Anyways here are the pics.

Oh and it might just give some of your cars a run lol as much as I hate to say it

That spoiler is ridiculous and probably adds 40lbs to the car. In all seriousness I'd take as much weight out of it as physically possible. That'll be the best way to make it perform better with limited money for mods. I think the GRM challenge is great. My doctor does it every year. He ended up in the magazine a while ago. He had a Miata.

the wing maybe weighs in at 2 pounds maybe, and it's just for show. It's made out of counter top back splash and some floppy plastic material. I've been autoxing for years i know all about weight saving and ****. The car is awesome, i ran pretty damn well in the autox today except at random times the tranny would pop out of gear, i'd go to hit the gas and nothing, which prolly costs me 2 seconds each time...which would have put me right up in the top!

cars fastest 1/4 time was a 14.2 @ 99. Best MPH was 100, my best reaction time was .009. The AutoX slicks would spin like hell and cause wheel hop, put the stock rims/tires on the front drop the psi down to 15, and picked up 1/10th of a second. Also had trouble getting it into second as well. If we could fix this problem it's an easy 13 second car.

you have to document everything with receipts. Obviously it's harder to make sure these things are valid and some people obviously take advantage of that and ruin the fun that is supposed to come out of it. You could tell some people spent way more than $2008 or they just know how to bargain and budget.

I had a great time though, I'm already looking for a second car to build and bring there next year. We have some money left to put into the civic and parts to sell that will add to our total that we can use. Field two cars and see what we can do.

what do they do about currently owned parts? i.e. you already own a GSR motor and now your $2008 car makes 400FWHP lol

well if it came with the car then it's included in the cost. If you hvae it sitting around int he garage you have to do "fair market value."

Hey I turned the boost up to like 10-11lbs on my last run which the motor shouldn't be able to handle and it flew like a bat out of hell and still chugs along lol. I do need to replace the spark plug grommets in the valve cover though, gotta a bit of oil leaking on to those. 200k miles on the biatch and takin 10lbs of boost lol.
