Advancing or retarding cam..benefits..negatives..

Was planning to just install my cam straight up but now wondering if should retard or advance it. Its hard to say what my car will drive like really until its done. I am still kicking around between 3.73 and 3.54 and think going with 3400 pro yank stall. I would think my 408 will have lots of bottom end and still pretty good top end as well.

My cam is lingefelter gt7 with 1.8 yella terras.
Specs on cam are..Lingenfelter GT7 208/230 .554/.546 –121CL
Almost identical to 05 z06 cam. I am think likely keep my rpm limit at 6500. But think 7000 is ok once in awhile with my hardware. May not be much point or need in going past 6500 anyway, heck might find shifting at 6000 is optimal just need the extra rpm for top speed in the 1/4 or whatever.

I guess looking for some opinions on retarding or advancing and what effects it will have with my setup.

retarding shifts the power up in the rpm band, advancing moves it down. On a turbo car advancing the cam will get you to spool sooner but sacrifice some top end. Since you have a 408 and twins, I doubt you need to spool sooner. Just install it straight up.

Hmm ok thanks Zombie. I also don't think will need faster spool either I guess put the darn thing in straight up for now. I do need to decide like tommorrow.

To really tell if there is an advantage to degreeing it a different way you would need to test different settings on a dyno. I know with DOHC motors there is power to be gained because you can individually adjust the exhaust and intake cams.

I hear you.I have dohc talons..
I am just putting it straight up for now..
