remove the plug from the drivers side of the block right next to the timing cover

Nope not filtered.

I'm planning on feeding off the cooler line port in/out. My engine does not have cooler, only aluminum part to redirect backinto oil pan. I'm going to drill/tap for oil pressure source.

OK very similar situation. I'm not real familiar with how the LS1 oil passages run so I drilled out the blocking plate on the oil pan. It was perfect for a 1/8" NPT tap and then I installed a -4 fitting in there. Then I had an after thought. The two holes are undivided coming coming into this plate. Is this like a feed and return for the oil cooler cars? I just don't want unfiltered oil going to the turbo.

Oil cooler is exactly what thats for. It IS filtered oil. I verified this by tracing the passages in the block/oil pan when I had my 5.3L apart.

I had traced the passage down and assumed that I was good but I didn't wanna make a fatal mistake based on an erroneous assumption.
