Default Finally started fabricating the turbo kit for my C5 yesterday

I finished building the hot sides this morning. There wasn't as much room as I was hoping for, but it fit pretty well when it was done. It has modified factory manifolds with 2.5 inch mid-pipes, dual 68mm ball bearing Precision turbos, 3.5 inch downpipes, and dual 38mm Tial wastegates. I've got a couple of 3.5 inch hi flow cats on the way, and I'll see if I can dig up a couple of intercooler cores this week. Hopefully I can build the intercoolers and the rest of the cold side next weekend. I've attached a few pictures of the progress so far. This is my first Corvette build, and any input would be appreciated.

Beautiful work, man! It takes a patient man to do that kind of fab work and make it look that clean. Keep it up.

I could certainly be wrong, but in the 2nd picture - shouldn't the turbo drain flange be facing down more to get proper oil discharge out of the turbo?

Yea, but it looks like there just in there for mock-up. Ive done the same, when it goes together for final assembly then they are put the right way.

I want to turbo my C5 so bad! that is a cool spot for the turbos....those cars are tight on space.

Also, what are you going to do about heat management?? what are you going to do to ensure good airflow to the filters and around the trubos??

Cheers

Chris.

The manifolds were pretty easy. I just cut them off right after the merge, and welded a 2.5 inch 90 degree bend with a v-band flange to the end. Took about a half hour for the pair. I'll post some pictures when I tear it down for coating.
Everything is getting coated and wrapped, and the turbos are getting bagged. I built aluminum shields with an aerospace heat padding attached for all of the sensitive areas as well as the footboxes. I'm going to form louvers into the inner fenders to keep some airflow going.
The air filters are positioned right behind the cowl openings on the fenders. I unbolted the plastic covers on the cowls, and it makes a pretty big hole for fresh air. Maybe some custom fresh air ducts later on.

Can't make it a bolt on kit because of the big pipes. I can build a kit if I have the car here, but i'm so backlogged with other vehicles that it'll be about six months before I can consider doing anything. Right now i'm just tinkering with my car when I get a little spare time, here and there. We'll see what kind of numbers it puts up when I get it finished.

Or wrap the turbo. I would be concerned about heat also.
