Talking 396ci + D1-SC New #'s

I've always been pretty happy with how much power my car made, previous best was 639 RWHP, 656 RWTQ on the LS6 intake and 18* timing.

Quick Stats:

9.5:1 396ci 7.65" crank pulley
D1-SC - 3.4" blower pulley
AFR 205's
Stalled 4L60E (3200 Vig triple disc)
Moser 12 Bolt
3" Steel DS
12" wide Fikse's

I found an old article from GMHTP where a procharged SS picked up substantial power going with a Vic. Jr. and a 90mm TB so I thought I'd give it a shot. It seemed to work out pretty well and here is a shot of how the engine bay looks and the new numbers!!

Here's a pic of the engine bay setup:

New Numbers

Old intake comparison

The car saw 18 psi through the D1 (225 kPa), I'm freakin' pumped!!! Thoughts/opinions/comments welcome.

Yea it has the 4.5"s, the only "upgrade" on the D1-SC kit out of the box is the TiAL BOV.

How much boost and timing were you running before the intake swap? For 130rwhp and 50rwtq you must have changed more than JUST the intake and TB....right?

Yea, that is up 3 PSI and 2* of timing (no filter on hat). You can see at 4k where I guess the intake really starts to help it.

So the old numbers were without the 396ci's or with.

I picked up a Vic JR as well and that is nice to see that there was a gain with it....hope I see a few horses out of it....sure does look nice though

Congrats on the numbers, are you going to do a FMIC or stick with the dual IC's?

Looks like belt slip or something on the old runs. I mean the curve just drops after 5600 rpm on the old setup, something has got to give and it wasn't the old intake's fault. 3 more psi and 2* more timing can make up for some of that though but not the weird curve.

Thanks! Break granted supersix, for a week or so .

Old graph was also the 396ci., Vic Jr. is the only new addition.

Doubtful, the car held full boost all the way through previously, no drop and zero belt dust on the blower. It is on the exact same belt/tension with this intake as well, no change.

Hmm, then I have no explanation as to why the old dyno curve is so weird looking if the intake is all that was changed with more boost. Something was up before with it though for sure and I think the gains you are seeing are not really attributed to the intake alone with the exception of the additional boost. Maybe the boost didn't drop off but it held steady and wasn't rising like it should have been? It also looks like the intake is definitely not as good below 4500 rpm as it matches the LS6 intake below that with 3 more psi.

Agreed, I'm assuming the LS6 just couldn't keep up with the additional airflow past 4500, perhaps it was a little choppy. It certainly carries the power further with the intake, I'm not really sure how though?

It definitely isn't the intake that was causing the problem, seen so many that I can't even count that haven't had that issue with the LS6 intake. Bout the only time I have seen that type of curve on a procharged car was with boost leveling off or dropping due to belt slip, blower is just out of steam, or valvetrain issues. The D1 definitely wasn't out of steam and you say there wasn't any slip and boost was rising as it should and the valvetrain is identical so I am out of ideas. lol

For sure, either way it's making good power right now with a D1.

How do you like the BOV so far? I haven't gotten to try mine yet. Just got the mounting flange welded up the other day and took it to the powder coater yesterday. I will have mine set up about like you have yours.
