IAT's Vs Timing

Was wondering about a few things today and thought I would ask.

I know depending on your IAT reading depends on how much timing you can run, but is there a general formula that anyone goes by, or a rule of thumb on the subject?

Also can you make your IAT's too cool, or is it always the cooler the better? I would think at some point it would not help or possibly be harmful?

Ignition timing depends on every single variable really. Size of the motor, compression, head's, cam, iat's, plug's, gas, ect.

Typically people go by previous experience, keeping an eye on knock sensor's, sneaking up on the tune and watching the power and torque and seeing what it does with changes. There are many different theory's on how people decide where to put the timing. I would say majority on here fall inbetween 15*-20*, but I know of some that are higher.
