IAT's

What kind of IAT's are you guys seeing on and off meth and what is a safe level to run.

cablebandit Aug 21, 2009 08:25 PM

85ish ambient...start runs around 100 degrees IAT..no meth end at 140. with meth end at 80

cbr600rx7 Aug 22, 2009 11:29 AM

I spent some time out with HP tuners the other night. I am not sure but i think the intake air temp is getting to high and the car is pulling timing. This could be why i am seeing very low trap times. Only 11.6 @ 114 boost only and only 117 @ 117 on a 35 shot. I am seeing 165 plus IAT's in the 1/4 with out the bottle on only 9 pounds and thats on a cool NC night. The car should be running 15 deree's of timing but as the air temp goes up its droping down to 6 to 8 degree.

OUTLAWZ RACING Aug 22, 2009 05:34 PM

Thats high wht size inter cooler do you run? I see crusing on a 100+ degree day around 88 degrees and at idle around 110. On meth 78 degrees wot on the high way in 100+ degree and at night when its 85 degrees out my Iats on meth is in the 60 degree at wot. I also run a 50/50 mix and use the biggest nozzle.

cbr600rx7 Aug 22, 2009 08:45 PM

I am running the TTI street intercooler but i dont have the front of the car opened up and i dont think its getting any flow.

LS1Silverado05 Aug 23, 2009 01:20 AM

How do you know how much meth to run? Do you just keep spraying more until you see the temps you want or what?

OUTLAWZ RACING Aug 23, 2009 09:00 PM

Im not sure on the meth it ramps up as boost goes up so its all where in the power band you spray it. I have a single nozzle and my intake is custom so thats why I used the biggest one. To cbr. I did the cat fish mod with the gills lol to expose the intercoller and it made a huge diffrance. Look in my photo albums. i would not completely gut the front nose tho.

cbr600rx7 Aug 24, 2009 06:56 PM

Yeah thats what i am thinking. Right now the intercooler is getting no flow and i fill like its just heat soaking. I notice for about every 8F she pulls .5 timing. This could be why i am traping so low and the car stops pulling at the top of 2nd gear.

cbr600rx7 Aug 24, 2009 06:59 PM

This is also on a TA.

OUTLAWZ RACING Aug 24, 2009 07:02 PM

Oh dam do u have the front plate remove? I know it aint much but it may help

cbr600rx7 Aug 24, 2009 09:07 PM

No it is still in place.

OUTLAWZ RACING Aug 24, 2009 09:15 PM

I would remove the plate and cut that area out where it mounts that will expose the intercooler and force air around it.

I just thought bout it how big is the intercooler?

So why do you even have an intercooler?

cbr600rx7 Aug 24, 2009 09:17 PM

I think it might help but not sure how much flow its going to allow.

Um because the LS1 is a higher CR engine and with out a good IC your knocking on deaths door steep. Even with it tucked away the it still does remove some heat from the intake system and is still safer then not having one.

This is a good topic, but useless unless more information is included.

1. ambient air temp.
2. iat
3. with meth and mix % and system set up and nozzle placement
4. BOOST.....and turbo used. more boost = more heat.
5. intercooler, size, air flow..
6. speed the veh is moving when iat is measured

and humidity if you can.

The most recent numbers I can remember are.

turbo van:
1. ambient = 107
2. iat = 107
3. no meth
4. boost = 10 psi with turbonetics 72mm
5. intercooler = cummins 12 valve ram intercooler (in the area of double the core size of a 11x3x24 typical f body intercooler)
6. speed doesnt seem to matter , it stays right around ambient weather its idling or at 10psi at 60 mph..

7. humidity is less then 15%

Zombiess car has logged 65 degree iat in 94 degree heat at hiway speeds. using 11x3x24 intercooler, st80 at around 15 psi using a smc kit.

Meth will be on the turbo van in a couple days....and some track testing but the ambient is probably going to be well over 100.

cbr600rx7 Aug 29, 2009 03:53 PM

I am going to try opening it up a bit today by removing the plastic. I also might try lowering the intercooler down right in front of the opening to try and get some more air too her.

1320 Aug 29, 2009 04:19 PM

50 50 results on the van....113 ambient.....79/80 degree IAT at 10 psi. Yes 33/34 degrees ...........Last night I actually saw 69 degrees on the freeway at speed (120 ish) with ambient around 94.

sujomatt Aug 29, 2009 04:25 PM

can u take a b4 picture and after picture? lol

i cut the entire grill of my Camaro for the FMIC.. i was advised not to but i did it to avoid running into this issue. i dont care if the top is spidering a little - no one can tell (seriously) and its not exactly a show car anyways.. i bought it to make power lol

cbr600rx7 Aug 29, 2009 10:12 PM

I sure can. I was hoping to get started to day but i was replacing a shift cable on my scout (for the people on here that still remeber them) I will keep my before and after logs to see what the change is.
