Default Boost cam for my budget 5.3....

Well i am looking for a cam for my budget boost 5.3 project.... I was going to just get a ZO6 cam because it has proven to make great power with the boost 5.3's...

I came across a cam on here with these specs: 231/226 601/591 115

Do you think this would be to much cam for the little 5.3 or do you think its just right?

I think this cam would work great.... but im no cam expert lol.

This will be my setup: Pullout 5.3, 317 heads, PRC Dual Springs, 3600 stall, 3.70 gears, Master Power T70 .96AR Truck manifold setup.

I know there isn't anything better than a custom spec'd cam but this is a BUDGET build.

Thanks guys!

Blaine

thats to much cam if you ask me

talk to Shawn at VA speed he has a nice turbo cam that would work very well...

i also know parish gained 100rwhp at 8psi by switching to an 02 z06 cam over the stock 5.3 cam

ya i seen parish's dyno charts for the ZO6 cam swap.... think i might just go that route. Its been proven many times to work great in the 5.3

Since my budget is so tight i think it will be the cheapest route to go also.

I would just run the 5.3 heads with the z06 cam. 317 heads will drop the compression too low IMO.

I got the 317'a because a lot of guys are making good power with them.

it should be 8.7-8.9 comp

I think you can make more power with less comp and more boost than more comp less boost... correct?

gonna run 12-15 psi at 12-15 timming with meth and fmic

should make my goal.... I hope

The high comp will make more power with race fuel and timing. In my opinion it's best to choose a CR that will allow you to run within 4~8* of what the combo would run for timing NA, with enough boost to keep the turbo in it's effeciency range, on the fuel that you plan on using.

Shoot, hardly any, look at the freakin LSA, still very little overlap, just a bit more duration. I picked one up for my 4.8 that I also have a set of fresh #317's for. Plan to run 15psi though also, run it.

is there a power curve out there for this? of course 100rwhp would be sweet , but I would like to see where it would overtake the stock cam for torque.

I saw a 5.3 build that made 140hp over the stock heads and cam but the stock heads and cam were the king in torque and hp till about 3000 rpms

comp should be around 9.3:1 on a 5.3 with 317 heads. you should be able to get 15lbs w/o meth and you should be able to run more timing than that also.
