Open dump wastegates? Who's running them?
 

Done a lot of research on here and can't say that I've ever seen the topic arise. I've always ran open dump tubes on all of my turbo cars but it looks like most members route the wastegate into the downpipe. Guess I'm a fan of the jet engine sound the open dump produces when boost hits and the simplicity involved with running a straight pipe off the gate.

What's everyone's opinions? Pros and Cons welcome.

I run no exhaust just straight open downpipe, i love jet noise BTW...

Thanks Shawn for the vids. I'm curious to hear what an open dump would sound like on a front mount setup with a full exhaust. I think I'll continue using open dumps when I build an lsx.

i think i will make my wg's dump into the atmosphere. that sounds like a jet. i cant wait till my set up is finish. my roomate said it sound like a exhaust leak. he is a mustang tho.

my car is going to be a loud street car. I am running atmo bov's,atmo wg's, and my exhaust is going to be just a pipe off the turbos and dumped under the car with no mufflers. do yall think that is to much?

Matt called me yesterday afternoon and told me he was done with everything but the pump. The pump came in yesterday and he was installing last night and ordering me some fittings which should be in today/tomarrow. I asked him if he thougtht we might get it on the rollers saturday and he sounded pretty sure, depends on parts.

Only bad news, Matt asked how attached I was to cruise control, which I don't drive it enough to use it, so I am loosing it. Scavenger pump is taking it's location! :)

4" mandrel dp with 4" magnaflow bullet dumped before the axle. Wastegate dumped to atmosphere. I hear no sound from the wg unless I am on the throttle and in boost. Then it's just the jet engine sound.

Shawn's vids sound damn neat! glad to have a nother WV guy even if you do live so far away.... makes me want an STS kit for my new silver t/A
