F body Intercooler mounting idea's

needed...best way of mounting, and size needed for say under 600hp level for camaro and firebirds etc. id like to retain and much as the stock components as possible.

im just not seeing much room up there without removing alot of stuff.

pics would be helpful

For just simply an IC that can support 600 hp - u can get a CXRacing core, 3" width. Just have to take the bumper cover off, and cut the bumper beam to fit it - not too hard.

+ 1.

There are a few guys running them on here and for the money they are great. I am about to order one to replace my cast TTI IC. I am planing on running the 24x12x4.

We mount them in our bumper support. There are pics on our site.

Mine retains stock fog lights also.

what about the washer jug and all that?

XtremeDime 03-23-2010 06:10 PM

The washer jug goes behind the hoot latch support so that shouldnt be affected. I removed mine because I thought I might have airflow issues.

heres mine, not sooo much stock retaining but its solid as hell!! 2 pieces of angle iron slide into the frame and bolt to the bottom, welded another piece of angle to the front then made a "cage" around the intercooler and welded that to the intercooler support. Just throwin it out there in case you want to mod the idea...

What size intercoolers are you guys running. I thought 24x12 was big but some of you guys are definitely running much bigger.

IMO if I had to do it all over again I would remove the front bumper brace and make a bracket that mounts to the bolt holes that holds the front bumper brace.

No need to hack the front bumper brace if you decide to go back to stock.

Removing the front bumper brace gives you extra room on either side of the FMIC to make a bracket to hang the tranny cooler (if running an A4) on one side and a bracket to hold the methanol pump of the opposite side.
