Default 4.10's too much gear for my FI build?

Car is a magnacharged 2000 Trans Am 500+ hp and TQ and just over 3k RPM's.

I just ordered an S60 with trutrac and 4.10's to go in. Car is currently a dog getting out of the hole with 26.5x18 DR's and is nowhere near where it needs to be at the end of the 1/4. Car is about 3700 lbs. with me in it and this launch vid is at an earlier and heavier weight.

Car is very touchy getting off the line with 18's on a 40 series. This is my best 60' and it was a 1.8. I'm only cutting mid 12's in the heat and trapping about 114. Our DA in Colorado tends to be about a mile and a half.

I'm redlining and shifitng at about 6200-6400.

I've done the math with a gear calculator and if I can wind out 4.11's I should be at 120+mph and good for 11's. I'll also be installing a drag bar and torque arm relocation with the Strange when I get it as well.

I know I need a slick, but I'll have to see where she's at to know if I need to go up in tire size. I'll get 15's and some front drag suspension at that time as well.

But did I choose too much gear?

Midwest Chassis would have liked to put me in 3.90's but I didn't want to spend the coin on the Fab9 and west pretty heartset on the S60. I also couldn't justify the money I spent to only go to a 3.73 gear.

With your elevation level I'd think the 4.10's will work just fine, and a 28" tall tire will get you there. I ran an 11.01 at 15 psi of boost with stock 120,000 motor with 4.10 gears and 28" tall tires about six years ago, with the red line set at factory 6,200 rpm it was on the rev limiter at the 1000 ft mark. You're not running as much boost, you're higher than our 900 ft, and you're running the rpm higher. Bob

Thanks alot for the input. I just see so many FI guys going with such numerically low gears with their setups and I don't see how they get them to work.

When my car doesn't spin wildly out of the hole I trap between 112-114. With my current 3.42's and 26.5" tire this comes out to be 4900-5100 RPM's. So there's plenty of room there.

4.10's would equal 5800-5900 RPM's with the same MPH, and 123 MPH at 6400.

125 on a 27", and 130 on a 28" at 6400

If I can redline the 4.10's with the current tire size it should be good for 11's even with a shitty 60', but some have told me it will be too much gear which I don't understand.

11's for a supercharged car doesn't sound like much for most, but at the track and altitude I run hitting 11's is a big deal.

Bandimere is just 100 miles north of this track. Just before this video, I spanked a stock C6 Z06 by .8 with a lousy 2.2 60'. My buddy James in the white SS in the video is running a 228/228 TSP H/C package with a FAST and sprays 100 shot of the line with 3.73's. He's managed a best of 12.2 on a 1.7 spraying out of the hole. Not sure the MPH on that one. He recently blew up his FAST on an N2O backfire just trying to get an 11.99 off of a 150 shot. He's considering a forged 418 on the gas will get him 11's. Your typical full bolt-on f-body out here with DR's runs 14.2 all day long.

Granted we're not running an ideal drag setup, but I'm getting there a little bit at a time. Our cars are obviously leaving pretty hard given the circumstances.

I'm really hoping this S60 I just ordered with 4.10's really wakes my car up. It sucks ***** at such high altitude because we lose alot of bragging rights because our times aren't worthy of our setups. It's almost embarrasing! Not to mention we don't get the bang for the buck that guys at lower DA's are getting.

Poweradders just to get into the 12's just flat out sucks!

If I can get kicked off of this track for not having a 6 point in a street car....mission accomplished...for now.

Are you running at Pueblo? I know what you mean about our times in Colorado compared to the rest of the world, lol. Good luck with the new rear.

N20 car I had...

150 shot
4.10 gear
28's
shifted at 7000
heads, cam, 11:1
10.008@134mph

4.10's and 28's could have gone to 137 or 138 with my combo.
