Default Single Turbo LS1....What will it make? Turbo to small?

Yes this is another dyno prediction thread. While there are a bunch of these on here, I think this one could stimulate some good discussion and info from the turbo lsx veterans on here.

Here is some info on my car. I just finished the build last week and I'm almost done breaking the motor in. Dyno time will come in the next week or so. Im interested to see what it will make and if the turbo(mainly the hotside) is to small for the motor.

Here we go:

2002 LS1 block out of a Camaro SS (346ci), Forged Diamond pistons (dish), Callies K1 steel rods, ARP rod bolts, head studs and main studs, 317 cast heads (polished chambers), 224/224 598/605 114lsa cam, Comp hardened pushrods and double valve springs, 60lb injectors and Walboro 255.

CR is at 9.1:1

Turbo: Precision 67/65 Journal bearing, Billet wheel, .96 A/R hotside, 3in Vband outlet. Its front mounted and intercooled. 24x14x3 Intercooler with 3in pipe.

Car will be tuned on SD using a GM 2-bar MAP sensor.

Trans is a TH350 full manual valve body with a PTC 3800.

My question is what do you think it will make, assuming all goes well? I dont think I have enough fuel for 600whp at this point in time, but its somewhat of a college, budget build so the fuel upgrades will have to come later.

What do you guys think? I dont have a boost level determined yet as much of it depends on the fuel supply. Some people have speculated that the 65mm hotside (.96ar) will choke the motor with too much backpressure.

Comments?

Thanks!
Chandler

i think that intake tract may start to abosorb alot of heat from the crossover after some hard runs, pulls or street time.
any plan to make a small sheetmetal heat shield for it?

I would think you have plenty of fuel for 600rwhp if your running stock LS fuel pressures.

Great observation. I agree with you in that it will absorb a lot of heat. I have thought about some kind of shield or possibly re routing the intake pipe more towards the radiator and away from that downpipe. I was hoping the wrap would hold in most of the heat from the exhaust but a shield of some kind wouldnt hurt.

I could be wrong but im not sure if a single 255 pump will be enough......

If your staying with a single 255 then i'd say 550rwhp anything over that and you will be running outta fuel.....

Good to know. I had been hearing numbers like 420whp.....which I think is to low for an aftermarket performance pump like that. Ill probably end up with a twin in tank setup but 500whp would be a good start for me. Ultimate goal is 600-650whp, but i know I will need more juice for that!

I was just rethinking what I posted and didn't take into account that my experience is with cars that spray a large amount of methanol.

I have the homemade turbo kit i made on my truck and my intake tract runs just above my y-pipe where exhaust enters the turbo and it never sees over 150 iats at 10#s of boost on my t76

On my old nitrous setup i made 500/570 with a single 255 and stock injectors and my tuner told me i was pushing it......

But i have seen a few members one here squeeze out 550whp with just a single 255 although i wouldnt do it!

Twin intake pumps have been proven to touch 1000rwhp when setup properly, if your only looking for 600-650whp then you MIGHT be able to get away with a boost a pump im no expert tho!

Sounds like a sweet truck! is it intercooled? My IATs usually hover around 125 but thats only at 2psi (90deg ambient).

Big stall and no converter lockup = low rwhp numbers. What brand dyno is it?

It could dyno 450rwhp and trap 140mph lol.

I'm thinking you could make 600rwhp with the single pump but something in the 550rwhp might be the range of safe.

Scratch the fuel issue. Car has twin in tank 255s . I had to trace some wires and eventually just pulled the access panel. So on to the hp question. The stall is pretty loose in this thing. Im tempted to swap a 6spd in it for the fun factor.

I hope you are right w the trap speed! haha. Its an Eddie current dyno. Im not sure of the brand but it uses a electromagnetic "brake" to put load on the car. Its pretty accurate with a Dyno Dynamics, numbers wise.

Probably a Mustang dyno. Well just to put it into perspective, I've gone mid 130s in my 4200+ lb car when the car only "made" 550rwhp on a Mustang dyno. 4L80e and a 3600 stall unlocked. So don't get depressed if the dyno seems low... at the track is where it matters.

And also for what it's worth, my car used to be a 6 spd and put down over 650rwhp. Car went mid 130s then too. It's way faster and way more fun to drive as an auto now though
