Default Rear-end for turbo, s/c cars (kinda relevant to FI section I think)

Okay 1st the reason on why I am putting this in here is because not everyone in this section looks in the gears/axels section and this is dealing with FI cars only. But I wanted to know what rearends and rwhp/tq people are running also if it's a summer car, DD or drag car oh and let's not forget what FI are you running. I am going to be due for an upgrade and pretty much all my searches turned up people that are N/A or under the 5-600rwhp mark. I would like to know whats working for FI cars before I jump out there and spend $4 grand for one. Thanks

I had a Moser 12 bolt, 3.73's, 33 spline axles, True Track, 1.3 60's all day long off the 4L60E footbrake. D1SC 808rwhp, 3966lb raceweight. My only complaint, it got louder each time I went to the track. If I were to do it all over again Midwest Fab 9".

I love my MWC 9". I have slight gear whine, but I don't care. **** is bulletproof and belongs under a 7 second ride, not my 10 second ride

I wish I would have gone that route! 03supercobra's is silent compared to my old 12 bolt. Solid setup no doubt. You know that sled is just 2 little brass jets away from those single digits!

MWC for sure.... no ifs ands or butts.... I wore out the good old 10 bolt and upraded with all the options for 3K.... added on chromoly DS.... for a little over 3k shipped. The options add up like billet pinion yoke and such... The only decision is MWC for sure though...............

It sure is, but the kit is going to be for sale very soon as well as the heads.. Going w/ 317s and a truck mani kit over the winter... See what I can do with a turbo 6 speed, and when the motor/tranny **** out, it'll be built motor/th400 time

I hear ya on that. My 12 bolt doesnt like me either. Especially with a stick car and 780rwhp.

Highly doubtful... The car will still have the stock bottom end and tranny We'll see what happens though.

I would recommend a Moser or Midwest 9", 35 spline axles, Yukon gears (supposedly quietest) and a Wavetrac posi.

(The Fugitive's SETUP = custom TC78 butt mount & built 4l80)
MY Setup = LT1/4 with STS @ 11 lbs of boost and a boatload of Meth (to keep it from blowing up!) and a built T56 with an LT4 clutch (Kevlar clutches SUK / go BOOM!)

My rear end = stock GM 10 bolt with Micronited (spelling?; i.e. - Micro-polished) Ring and Pinion gears, with Strange Axles, a HD cast Aluminum rear-end cover, air bags, and full UMI suspension parts.

NOTE: I do NOT have 500/600 RWHP, but rather only 450, so my info may not be applicable; but, having said that, I would submit for your consideration that Microniting the Ring and Pinion gears only cost one tenth (i.e. - $300) of a full blown 9" ($3k), and I cannot seem to break it.

One more point of order: I am also painfully aware that no one else here (ls1tech.com) has tried Microniting / Micro-polishing as a way of protecting the weakest link within the 10 bolt, so I am only a one person sample size (not statistically significant at all). But, I've saved $2700, and could not be happier.

Quick Reply: Rear-end for turbo, s/c cars (kinda relevant to FI section I think)
