Default Would like some help with turbo and parts selection

Vehicle details: 1985 SWB Chevy truck. Trailing arm rear suspension, ford 9" 35 spline axles w/braced housing, and th400. Stall will be decided when I call and get a trans built. I am going to start with a 6.0l, stock crank, Callies compstar HD rods, Wiseco dished pistons. Up top will be an Edelbrock Victor jr. with High flow elbow. I need help with throttle body, cam, and opinions on head selection. 1st off I want the truck to run in the 10s for sure and still be decent enough on the street. I wan it to run on pump gas and possibly race gas when I hit the track. I am thinking og going with TEA CNC ported 317s and a 90mm TB and getting a cam spec'd for my combo. I was told a Turbonetics TC78 would be good for my combo but looking through the builds on here I was thinking 88mm. Also what wastegate and bov? Please help me bc this is my 1st turbo build. I think I am over thinking all this.

you need to be a little more specific on your goals, with everything you listed you will be there. the 88mm will leave you with much more room to grow than the tc78, the heads will get you there, 90mm TB will work great so stick with that. Go with a name brand waste gate, the BOV is not so important, its either working or its not and you will know about both.

Decide on turbo before you decide on teh cam, those 2 will need to be relatively matched to each other so have a professional spec the cam, josh@kytp, patrick g, LMR, Gforce, somebody reputable. keep the converter tight, dont go with a huge stall as this eats up power on the big end, no more than about 3500 rpms.

I think your goals are well within reach, how heavy is that truck? I'm putting together a similar combo, going with the pt88 to have that "room to grow" mentioned above..

Good luck with your build!

I am hoping after all is said and done it weighs between 3600-3800lbs. I just got to find ways to lose weight. I have been leaning towards the pt88 for some room to grow.

gt-4788 is a newer version, better spool and capable of a little more power. its a popular choice and its tried and true, you really cant go wrong with the pt88 or the tc78.

The gt-4788, is that a garret turbo? I am new to the different "numbers" that the manufactures use for the same size turbo.

theres a thread in here somewhere of an older body chevy truck, i think 80's but it was a 6.0 with a D1SC, then he switched and built a custom turbo setup witha pt88. It turned out to pretty wicked fast, been a while since i saw it but its here somewhere, truck was black and Frost tuned it.
