Default 4.8, what budget turbo/WG/BOV to go with

Ok so I am doing a budget turbo 4.8 build. I have all the engine components etc.. now its time to get a turbo, wastegate, and blow off valve. I plan on running an ebay intercooler. this is a street car looking to get as much horsepower for the money. nothing too crazy. Question is, whats a good size turbo for the 4.8? should i go with a 44mm WG? i found a tial 50mm BOV for 150 on a local cragslist ad. good deal? also, anyone know of any reputable off brand turbos for around 300-600 dollar range? Im not looking to spend a ton on a turbo. any used turbo sites that i can check out?

thanks

You should be able to find a new or like new MasterPower 70mm turbo for 600 or a little less shipped to your door.

I wouldn't waste my money on a Chinese ebay turbo.

Ran the ebay turbo all last year and not one problem...havent heard of one failure from the model I have. Funny thing is i took it off to sell...sold it to my buddy and was going to get a "name" brand...but ended up buying another one off ebay.....
Check out the new HotROD magizine..they did a junkyard 5.3, 01 zo6 cam, and ebay chinese turbo....made close to 600 hp....no intercooler....

honestly for the price you would be better off buying a mp its only a couple hundred more and you get a warranty

Buy once cry once. It'll cost you more in the long run if you skimp here and there than buying quality the first time.

I would go with a S472 with the 1.10a/r and 83mm turbine myself, onlly $600 and will make HUGE power on the 4.8 with a decent spool time. You could add a spool valve later on to make it rediculous

Ok so far I have a couple in mind. The mp t70,t76, and that s472 sounds like it would be crazy. But wouldn't I have a huge turbo lag with that one?

Not that it help but I just finished my front mount turbo in a firebird 4.8 ls6 cam and a s475 t6 flange 1.32 ar I'm hoping it won't be ridiculously laggy but I do have a 2 step and it's a drag car. If the weather changes for the better I'll let you know how it works out

Oh that's perfect. Let me know how that works because if it's nice that's what I'll go with.

lots of guys running the small 475 with 83mm turbine and 1.10 a/r on 5.3s and it works about perfect. Most say its a bit small for a 6.0L motor and from my experience the 5.3/4.8 are pretty similar with the 4.8 having more compression. Like I said it will be a bit laggy but with a 3400+stall you would hardly notice, plus if you add a spool valve it would be absolutely perfect. Another thing is that you have alot of growing room with it if you ever step up your combo

Godspeed makes a decent 50mm BOV, all i did was re-seal it and it works, and sounds just like a Tial 50mm.

Heres a pic of it taken apart.

They have a sale at modular turbo for a JGS 40mm wastegate and RPS 50mm BOV for 350. Prolly will go with that. Also, where can I find one of these s475 for 600? I've searched for them and can't find them for less than ~800
