Default Cleaned up stock manifolds?

Has anyone ever cleaned up a set of truck, or other cast stock manifolds? Im talking about grinding off the casting marks and heat shield mounts for a cleaner appearance.

Would there be any possible downsides to doing something like this? I really like the idea of stock manifolds, but they're just not clean enough looking for my taste.

I'd love to see some pictures.

Cleaning off casting flash and smoothing the surface would actually make them stronger and more resistant to cracking (provided the surface was stress relieved), so I don't see any problem with it. It probably isn't a bad idead to at least clean out the threaded parts and apply anti-sieze to keep the heat shield bolts from rusting to the manifolds. Just keep n mind that they'll be rusty agan in no time

I did see it on here a while back. The guy ground off everything till smooth and had them coated, not bad looking at all. Search around, it's gotta be here.

I did mine. I didn't realize how thin ceramic coating was out I would have slicked them down more.

if you're **** enough that the casting flash and numbers bother you, so will the porosity of the surface. it'd be pretty time consuming to get rid of all of it... i thought about this too but said **** it.

Yeah, the issue is my setup is going into a jet boat... The engine will literally be the focal point of the whole boat. I keep beating back and forth about just fabricating my own out of sch. 10 or 40 pipe (10 for stainless, 40 if I go mild).

As crazy as it sounds, I would even sacrifice performance for a clean appearing setup.... it's not like Im going to really miss 20hp in an 800 hp boat.

they dont look bad when coated, and you CAN clean em up pretty good, its just a matter of time.

you could also consider using a set of 5.0 shorty headers if cost is an issue. if you want something that'll look good forever i'd go with va speed or s.w. headers.
