Default LQ4 Magnum T72 IROC build. Then CXRacing 80mm. Now S475 in progress!

About a month ago i got started on my first turbo build. The car is an 86 Camaro currently with an LQ4 with L92 heads, Jake's 4L80E with 3000 stall and 9" rear with 3.50 gear. Ill be adding a Magnum T72 and throwing some boost at the stock shortblock. Here are some pics of the car and what has been done so far.

Also i remind you this is my first turbo build so if you guys see anything i have done wrong, possibly overlooked or just have suggestions feel free to chime in.

And this is where i am currently. I just got it mocked up with the passenger side tube tacked in place and the start of a downpipe made. I am waiting on getting more 2.5in tubing to start the passenger side crossover pipe.

Well good to know i haven't messed anything up too badly yet.

After the piping gets finished up i need to figure out which cam im going to run. The plan is to run the stockblock for 1 season then build it next winter so i think i may just throw in an ls6 cam(unless there is a better cheap cam for boost??) and then get a custom cam when the shortblock is built.

Iv been working the past couple weekends on the rest of the hotside and iv got it all tacked together besides the wastegate, which i ran out of time for. So here are some pics.

Had to bust out a BFH on the inner fender well ;D

I decided to run the 4" out the fender with my cut out in line. I am going to branch off the bottom side of the downpipe before the cutout and run 3" to my existing exhaust under the car.

And this is where i quit with the wastegate mounting.

Update:

Got to work pulling the cam out because i sold it. An ls6 cam will be here next weekend so the car gets to sit in pieces for the week.

Once i got that done, there wasn't much else to do so i spent a good amount of time grinding, filing, and sanding on the valve covers. I was considering buying some aftermarket valve covers but i don't really like any of them that much so i figured i would just save the money for something else.

I shot them with some primer to check how smooth they are and they turned out pretty good. I still need to fill whats left of the coil holes and weld some -8 fitting into them for catch can lines. I havent decided what color im going to go with yet but i did like the burnt orange that they were before so i may do that again.

Looks good so far, Hows the plug access on the passenger side? One suggestion I would make if you havent already done so is to make a support for the turbo, maybe go off the end of the cylinder head. My first turbo setup started to crack from being supported by the tubing alone.

Thanks, i was actually just thinking about that the other day. I was planning to bolt a plate to the head and run some round bar under the wastegate outlet to the turbo flange.

Looks good so far. I'd be concerned with baking the paint off your fender though.

The whole engine bay is just rattle canned with 500 degree engine paint so if it bakes off i can respray it easily.

Yeah i think it should work fine, i actually tied into a bend for both the smaller tubes going to the wg.

How much hp are you shooting for and how much boost? That turbo should spool extremely quick but I think its gonna run out of steam up top if you push it much.

I am probably only going to run in the range of 5-8 psi because id like the stock shortblock to last me through the season. I would be happy to see 500rwhp. Next winter ill be building the shortblock and most likely go with a TC78. The trans is good for 750hp so ill probably be pushing it to the limit of the trans
