Are you doing the 4L80 conversion? And what for the rear set up?

A quick question about your brakes.... What was on the front before? Was it the 4 piston Brembo's like the first gen CTS-V's had?

Due to me not being the richest guy around, I'm building my G8 in phases.

Phase 1 consisted of Roto Fab CAI (sold), Kooks 1 7/8 LT Headers, Kooks Catted Connection Pipes, Corsa Catback, New Era Camshaft 228/240 .598/.590 114 LSA, Pac valve springs (being replaced with dual springs), LS7 cam gear, ARP head bolts, GM LS7 lifters, Manley chromoly pushrods, Yella Terra 1.7 Rockerarms, GMPP CNC LS3 heads, 160° thermostat, Pedders Xa coilovers, BMR trailing arms, Forge star wheels 20x8.5 (F) 20x10.5 (R), Front CTS-V2 brakes, GXP front fascia and diffuser, MM CF hood, kidney grills, lower grill and spoiler, Third Shift Studio custom rear emblems and front & back G8 Concept Darts (black), Bohnman's Electronics Front Bumper Splitter, 8K HID kit, clear side markers/ 8K turn signals.

Phase 2 consists of the F-1D install along with Treadstone intercooler, Aeromotive fuel pump, regulator, lines and FIC 1000 injectors. A 5" pulley will be used in the hopes of keeping the boost around 10psi until Phase 4 is implemented.

Phase 3 will consist of Edelbrock intake manifold, Aaron's sheet metal elbow w/ Nick Williams 102mm throttle body, coil pack relocation, Pontiac logo valve covers, Cirle D or Yank stall, oil/trans coolers, necessary gauges and the installation or the rear CTSV2 brakes.

Phase 4 which will most likely be the last, which will conist of replacing 4L80 or rebuilding the current 6L80 trans (even throwing around ideas of swapping a TR606), buy forged short block from one of the forum vendors, BMR lower control arms, toe rods, front/rear sway bars, total suspension bushing kit, GForce axels/driveshaft, unknown what gearing or rear end at this time.

Only the GXP came with 4 piston Brembos just like the Gen 5 Camaro. The GT came with plain PBR calipers.

Are the 6L80E weaker transmissions? Why go 4L80E?

I guess some people are having a hard time making big power with the 6L80 even after having them rebuilt. On the other hand there are people who are doing just fine putting 650-700rwhp through the 6L80 after being built. Several serious drag racers having been replacing them with the 4L80 because it suppose to be stronger, but I'm leaning more towards staying with the 6L80.

We will see how these 6L80's hold up. Friend just tuned a 2010 Camaro with a 408 and F1X. Stock trans lol.

I'm intrested to see as well. You would think these new trans they are putting in the newer cars would be able to handle some power and abuse...

I just noticed, you are on the factory shortblock...?
The rear, if upgraded to the 2010+ Camaro rear will be fine as long as you do not launch it hard. Roll racing i'm sure it will take it, minus the factory axles.
I just installed TODAY a Coan triple disk converter, 3400 stall, drives 99% stock, I was very very impressed; might look into them. If you order from RPM Transmission they sell for 100$ less than direct.
For the transmission swap, if you deiced to go with the TR6060, I priced it out and it came to a near 6,000$, but there still seems to be electrical problems. Looks like the best bet is to buy a G8 GXP M6 wiring harness and that might take care of the problems. But has not been proven yet. I was going to do this swap until I looked into it. I plan on doing what you are basically doing next year, if so I will go to the 4L80e and it will no longer be my DD.

Replacing the factory short block is on my to do list. I will definitely look into the Coan. I also came up with approx $6,000 for the TR6060 swap too and I'm aware of the electrical problems. I don't really want to go the 4L80 route, but it seems to be the only proven alternative at this point. I think I'm going to wait and see what unfolds. Thanks for the info

I love this build! it reminds me so much of mine....@$$ backwards and awesome at the same time. i am subscribed sir because i LIKE THE WAY YOU TAWK! (carl childress reference)

supposedly the path of the righteous is

rear end
forged shortblock
trans swap
power adder

mine went

put money in stock motor
put stock trans thru T total hell--blow thru clutches
trans starts slipping -----lucas stop slip the **** out of it
rear starts leaking ------ pinion sealed it up twice
procharge it -----this is starting to really make sense now
blow it up! ------ how could this have happened.

what did i learn from all that?

beer

you get the picture.

Swapping out the single PAC 1218 beehives valve springs for the Lunati double valve springs for some added protection.

My oil and trans coolers also arrived today.

Looking good! How much massaging did you have to do to get the F1 to fit...if any?

I apologize ahead of time. I forgot to video the dyno run. Im sure some of you know how anxious and nervous you can get when your cars being dyno'd.
