F1 procharged guys

Im looking to start my long time build and after much debating im goin with the f1 series blower. Im looking to see what kind of combos and which f1 series blower your using.
My goals
Mid 9s in 1/4
Streetable (60% track, 40% street)
800-1000rwhp
Run on pump gas( meth as safe guard)

Thoughts i been kicking around
Aes 390 or 416. 6.0 iron based
317 heads
Custom cam
Ls6 intake for start
Lonnies two fuel pump setup
All arp hardware with head studs

Its going into a 00 trans am, with 4l80e and a mwc 9in with 3.55 gears with big and littles on 275/60 et street radials. No ac.

Thoughts and suggestions? Right now i am think a budget of 20k

I8UR4RD 09-02-2012 12:50 PM

the 390 is going to allow for stronger internals and more cylinder wall to play with later if you decide to bump it up to 398 or 402 or 408 after any mishaps. either way id get a better set of heads. thicker deck is needed.

TheLS1Lover 09-02-2012 01:04 PM

Yeah defiantly aftermarket heads. Along with LS9 HGs and ARP Studs. Better up that budget as well.

SCott5 09-02-2012 02:27 PM

As far as heads i was thinking of starting off with the 317s and when i would upgrade the intake, upgrade the heads.. I was seeing the use of prc237s by a few people and afr 225s. What about trickflows?

Im thinking the f1a would suit my needs. Agree or do i need the r or c?

ajrothm 09-02-2012 03:17 PM

May as well get the F1X if you are buying the head unit new.... Not THAT much more money but lot more blower. F1R will get you 1000rwhp if everything else is right..

SCott5 09-02-2012 03:44 PM

This is thinking outloud and not sure if this is a possibilty... What about a 370" motor?

ajrothm 09-02-2012 03:54 PM

A 370" motor will be fine... You can make 1000rwhp with a 370 but EVERYTHING will have to be right.

Get ready to spend some $$$....

I am doing a similar build right now and I will be at $30k once its all done..... But a lot of stuff could have been done cheaper or not at all and still make power.

I8UR4RD 09-02-2012 04:43 PM

go ahead and pick up the 4th gen aster bracket while its still on sale. at brutespeed if this is indeed going on a TA camaro. etc....makes all the difference in the world.

i went f1-a
390
aster
prc 237's

+badss+ 09-02-2012 06:37 PM

Checkout my build thread I'll have numbers middle of this week.

+badss+ 09-02-2012 06:37 PM

I'm also running 317's

helicoil 09-02-2012 09:17 PM

I went 9.80's @ 3810# with a D1SC/402/twin intercoolers/meth/4L65E - Yank 3400/9 Moser 3.70 on a 27x11.5 Hoosier.

I have been 9.18 @ 3350 with a 347 LS6/AFR 225/baby 224 cam/TH400/3.70 Moser/FMIC/D1SC

Your goals are easily obtainable and have been done many, many times.

I would do a 370" iron or a 402" iron or aluminum, the AES 390 is fine too. Really anyone of them will do it with the F1A. No need to get exotic on parts. They all will run good, even a LS1/6 with good heads. TFS 235 heads rock, AFR 225's work well too.

No need to spend 30K, that is just down right funny there! These motors do just fine with minimal mods just need to have a knowledgeable builder do the work and assembly. Done this many times now.

Stock 6.0L iron with ARP studs, or a LS2 with ARP studs. Spending an extra 350.00 to dowel the mains would be money well spent. No need to invest in caps. LS9 head gaskets, thick deck aftermarket heads with light valves and valvetrain, stock rockers with Harland Sharp mod. Stock cranks work just fine too, if you feel you want to spend money get a Compstar crank. The Compstar H-Beams work just fine too for the money. A Diamond shelf piston is also fine. LS6 intake and you are more than capable with a F1A to go into the high 8's at 3400lbs with the right converter and chassis. My $.02

Yes you can definitely do it cheaper and less involved... Especially if you are doing all of the labor yourself. Just depends on how you build the entire package.... A lot of stuff I did was not needed and added a lot of expense, but I wanted everything to be TRICK on my car.....

It can definitely add up though...
$11k for the engine, about $9k in the custom blower kit, $2k fuel system, $2k exhaust, $700 in valve covers, $600 in ventilation system, $500 in meth, $1500 for clutch.... Pretty much the best of the best in everything.... easy $30k..... This was not just for building big power, but for having every part of the system 100% reliable and show quality. All depends on what you want I guess.

I8UR4RD 09-03-2012 06:42 PM

^ this. its nice to know there is true quality in your ride. it creates trust, and thats as important with your ride as it is with your woman, because lets be honest.....which one is more likely to kill you. lol jp.

Im not "skimping" on anything on this, but some pieces i already have and will use to get the bugs worked out and get used to everything. The two things i see holding me back will be the heads and intake, but for start up, breaking in, and new build "issues" i think they "should" work. Then once that is all done and worked out bugs, i will swap some tfs 235s and a vic jr intake with an elbow

that's what my plan is as well.

You can make 1000hp with an LS6 intake no problem. Hell you can probably do it with stock 243s also if you can cram enough boost in it and keep the heads from lifting.

I'm running a stock LS6 intake on my new build as well.

Arun trapped 160mph with an LS6 intake at 3500lbs. (easily 1000hp).

The $1200 you would spend on a fast/TB you can put into a Direct Drive or 10 rib/ or cog setup.

Keep us posted on your build.

I am still in planning stages and really in between a 370 and a 390. Thats probably the one part that is not so much holding me back but keeping me from starting.
