Default help me decide LQ9 408 vs LS2 403 for s91 or s88 Build???

Ok here was the orginal plan which i already have the iron block and crank and bearings rods ect. i was gonna go 408 lq -15 cc dish pistons and my trickflow 215s ls6 intake and tb. but my buddy has a ls2 block for sale which there is a big weight difference there I was wondering if the weight difference would be worth using or stick with my iron block i already have, its going in my 98 camaro with alot of weight reduction tubular k member fiber glass hood no AC ect. but I was wanting to put a decent size stereo with a 10" sub. please give some advise sorry for the bad grammar I am in a rush at the moment

haha so does that mean I should go with the ls2?

also I have heard from some knowledgeable people that the iron block put put down more HP on the same amount of boost do to the way it retains the heat better or something similar to that LOL,

Just get the ls2 and build it and save it. Just swap the motors out like underwear lol jk the ls2 will save you some weight. Every engine is different throwing down power. Not sure how the heat tranfers from iron or aluminum. Aluminum is soft tho. But i see people here run boost on their setups with no problems it seems. Hopefully an expert can chime in and help. I just want the ls2 lol

The LS2 build is gonna cost me about a $1,000-1,500 but then I will be able to have enough parts all together to build a 408 shortblock to pretty cheap

IDK if the difference is gonna matter so much since im going boost, I know the weight would be much more of a issue if I was staying N/A again

lq9 is stronger. the weight difference is about 70-80lbs. just take out your a/c and compressor hvac and boom youve made up for it. just focus on taking weight out elsewhere. in the event that detonation or something occurs the iron will have a better chance of surviving. prefferably go with a sleeved block from erl.

If your going to boost it later and plan on puttin down some power then I would go with the Iron Block, no question. You can make up the weight difference with more boost!

Difference between the LQ9 block and the LS2 block is right at 80lbs. How much more horsepower does it take to drag 80lbs down the track? Like 8-10? Which is pretty negligible at 800+rwhp.

My opinion is to go with the LQ9 setup with a little more strength.

thanks for your opinion bro, oh I forgot to mention what this car is being built for... my two main goals are to run a high 9 low 10 at 150 and be able to do 200 in a standing mile its staying m6 its going to be more less a pro touring/auto cross car thats why im concerned about adding weight upfront my goal weight is under 3300 thats with a decent sterio with a amp and small sub. no back seats spare bumper supports two race seats no ac tubular k member and control arms upper and lower fiberglass hood what do you guys think now?

i look at it like this....one day the motor is going to have an unwanted event occur. when that happens......the lq9 is probably going to be more forgiving than
the ls2.

what do you mean by that exactly like the block will be more savable or help prevnt a piston or rod exiting the side of it or be better if it over heats or something of that nature

You want to save weight, yet you want to put a system in the car?

YUP, a small system that is just a 10" sub in the back driver side and a small 4 channel amp should add around 40 pounds to the car

Do the LS2 if you can. The blocks are plenty strong and have stood up to a ton of power....way more than you are looking to make.
