LS6 heads and a stock 5.3 compression ratio

I am wanting to turbo my car( 99 Ls1 Camaro) but if I do ill pull the stock ls1 out so I can forge it down the road, but until then I would like to pick up a 5.3 and put in it and turbo it, looking for around 6-700 rwhp, I would be using I TC78 mm turbo, 224/228 .581/.588 cam, Fast 92, and I already have a set of PRC Stage 1 ls6 heads and I believe there milled to around 62cc(bought them used) and GM MLS gaskets, what would this put the compression ratio on this setup, would it be too high for boost?

Can anyone give me there thoughts?

Assuming you have the dished piston 5.3 and a head gasket thickness of .051?, that would put you at 9.6:1. I'm no turbo expert but I believe you can boost it with not problem. If the head gasket is the .061 then you'd have 9.4:1 even better.

Yesterday I was shocked to see a guy boosting his 11:1 Camaro on youtube...

Do a Google search for compression ratio calculators. Make sure you pay attention to your effective compression too (includes cam timing.)

That's not a big deal IF he had forged internals.

I have a stock bottom end boosted 11:1 compression ratio car. No problems thus far. Running E85

Wow, thats bad ass. I learn something new everyday off this site. Glad to hear this is possible without immediate BOOM. How long have you been running that set up?

PewterZCar 11-02-2012 08:03 PM

I've got about 1500 miles since complete and lots of races.

My stang is 11.1 CR and I have been running 9lbs of boost to it for 30k miles on pump 93. No problems ever. I just checked the plugs the other day after 15k miles and they still looked good. Put down 620RWHP.

With E85 lots of guys are making over 700 to the wheels on stock bottom end boosted.

Okay thanks for the info, and yes ut would be s stock 5.3, but ill look up a compression calculator!
